I need a battery for the 87 4 runner. It has a dead CarQuest one in there now that isn't the right size, anyway. I'm only winding over a 22R, but I want the gnarliest battery I can afford.

I was looking at Advance Auto, as I have a few discounts coming to me. But are they OK, or crap? Based on pricing, DieHards are apparently made of gold . I'm not willing to put an Optima in a $500 truck.

Any advice?

Whatever WalMart sells, but get an AGM. They last forever and are all you will ever need.

Continental if available, or a tractor battery.

I've had decent luck over the years with Advance batteries. No recent experience. I seem to recall Consumer Reports speaking highly of Autozone's Duralast batteries, for what that's worth.

Our local interstate dealer has a local "reman" program called EconoPower.

Essentially they are batteries that are returned from local stealerships that aren't bad, they realized they need an alternator, or cable, etc.

I bought my last new battery for $40
