How do i do this, where do i buy the parts, etc...?
Assuming strut housings?
A steel supply place for the tubing and flat stock needed for the bottom and the mounting brackets.
You can have someone water jet or plasma cut the brackets and bottom for you and then machine the top of the tubes for the mounting nut and then weld the brackets onto the tube.
Sounds simple, but the welding is critical and tricky.
Tubes from 240/740 Volvos are usually the right diameter, and too long, so you can cut them off to the required length.
Strut housings?
Here are my custom housings. Pretty simple construction:
The tricky part here is that top (gold) collar is threaded to fit in the housing as well.
Oh my. That's exactly what i want.
Bonus points for threaded body, but i suppose that would be pretty expensive.
Dave - can you share a few more details on the construction? Where did you get the threaded sleeve material?
Acquire the strut housings that the inserts are for and fab from there.
That thingus started life as a Subaru rear strut housing. It had the same ear width as Mazda but nothing else, but for those of us with welders and imagination, this is but a minor detail.

The sleeves are not integral to the body. Any roundy-round shop will have them available.
So a lot of it will depend on the insert too.
I used the Koni A1 rabbit insert on mine the last time I made a set. With that being said, I just found an existing set of A1 Strut housings and then cut the mounting tabs off them and welded on the ones for my mirage I had at the time. Then I used the Koni Sleeves and welded a small ring for the sleeve to sit on. Drilled a hole in the bottom for the I think it was compression adjustor and then went to town.
You can just use the right size steel pipe and thread it for the correct gland nut as well.
Honestly, I built mine in about 2 hours with plenty of BS time build it. It was surprisingly easy.
Summit sells Allstar sleeves. Sleeves and rings is really cheap.
You don't really need to support them with a weld on ring, mine just sits on the ears and has never been a problem. If you really really need to, just use some 1/8" stock and weld it around, it will bend very easily with welding heat. Weld, pull, weld, pull.
