I love short tracks, and good aggressive racing, including a little (or a lot) of contact. That's the best part, and I don't mean trying to spin somebody out, or run them off the track, but if there's only so much real estate...

Watch a dirt modified race at the pro level. Those guys are fighting for every piece of track, and every position, and it can get rough. That's racing.

I don't think I've ever seen more than a few laps of the Daytona 500. I find it really boring.

I can watch a super speedway race. I can watch hour after hour of a road race. I have learned to appreciate the skill of the drivers, the tight passes and the lack of contact. If I wanted to see cars bump each other I am only 90 minutes away from the NYC area. I can watch that for no cost.

For me it is not about fighting for every inch of the track. It is about the speed, skill, sounds and stories. I find cars bumping, spinning and dented boring. But hey, people like demolition derbies. Not my cup of tea. Give me high-speed four-wheel drifts and passes in which the skilled driver AVOIDS contact. That's racing!

Giving the subject a little more thought, it occur to me that back when I enjoyed watching NASCAR, it felt like the drivers were making history at the big races. Nowdays, it feels more like they are making a commercial.

The racing compettion (what is left of it) has definitely taken a back seat to the marketing competion.

Since Genies seldom go back in the bottle, I suspect that NASCAR's woes will get worse before they get better.

Not a NASCAR fan, but not a NASCAR hater either. Stable rules package (the whole CoT thing is the exception that proves the rule), great TV coverage, and a rewarding experience for the fans who attend in person. I thought about watching Daytona this year, since I was interested in how they'd do on the new surface, but I had relationship stuff to do. Waiting for The Glen & Sears Point, always amazing to watch!

Yes, its actually pretty obvious. The Impala beige is called "Gold Mist Metallic," it has more of a brown to it; the Fusion is "Gold Leaf," and is even darker than "Gold Mist Metallic," and the Camry is "Sandy Beach Metallic," a basic beige color.

Oh wait, you were talking about the cars, not the colors? No, nevermind. They all look the same.

It would be 100% better if they got rid of the BS cautions

-VERY small debris on track, (blade of grass no, a hood yes)

-if someone spins and hits nothing, just spins off the course and is able to get going again then no

-anything below the line, no

I say, unless theres fluids all over the track, body parts, or a huge wreck, then let them RACE! I would definetly watch when that happens.....

It isn't the racing, exactly, that I dislike about NASCAR. It is the management and what has become of it since I was a kid.

I love the Charlotte night sprints. Short, sweet and volatile. I wish they made every weekend like this.

I hate all of the team/sponsor/big business crap. The days when an independent could field a successful one car effort are gone and I don't like to cheer for a product or an organization. Alan Kulwicki should have been the rule rather than the exception.

I hate the length of the race. If you are going to keep the playing field so close and throw a caution with 10 to go anyway... only race for 25 laps or cap it at an hour. Maybe have two or three races on the same day ala WTCC - make it a qualifying heat. Start where you finish.

I will watch 3 races this season. WGI, Infineon, and Charlotte Night. Probably on TiVo, fast-forwarding thru most of it.

Who won? I would wager that the grandstand was a bit more "lively" this year than the past several. My local newspaper reported that coolers were allowed to have 36 beers, up from the 6 beers allowed in recent years.

Roundy-round spec car racing and wwf like off track spin is what finally did nascar in for me. ALMS is my top tier racing series of choice at the moment

I do not disrespect the effort each driver and mechanic puts into the task, just the circus they have been thrown into.

I generally make an attempt to watch the Daytona 500 each year as well, but what I saw yesterday was just silly, all that goofy tandem racing was like watching a 500 mile couples/swingers party.

The spec car stuff is what ruined Indy for me. I could care less which driver can drive a spec car around an oval faster. It is an oval for crying out loud. A spec series on a road course may be interesting, but on an oval it should be about the car as well. Bring back open competition at least at the Indy 500. The Indy special days were great, especially during qualifying.

Wait for it-someone is sure to spout off about how low-tech the cars are, or how stupid the fans are, or how untalented the drivers are. If, somehow, that person holds their tongue (keyboard), just go read almost every other NASCAR post. Their ignorance will be vile and rampant.

Boy somebody sure takes offence to others opinions.

Kabel and Moparman- it's called ALMS and BTCC and FIA GT

We need the 80's NASCARS and Turbo V8's back in Indy again

Low tech has nothing to do with it. As for the drivers, look how many ran the Daytona 24 Hours. There is plenty of talent there. I don't like the wrestling aspect, no to I like the holier than thou working man's hero blue collar vitriol I hear from the beer swilling fans. How is that for offensive,

Seriously, a beer or three ok, but why bother going to the race and spending all of that money if you are just going to get sh*t faced? This applies to other sports as well. I got over the "let's get drunk" thing in college.

I am an ALMS fan. I try not to miss 24 Heures Du Mans.

I do usually miss Indy because my SCCA region always has an autocross on that Sunday and I would rather drive around cones than watch spec Honda's drone endlessly around the Brickyard.

FYI: The Indy Buick turbos were V6s based on the 3.8 litre GN engine. Stock blocks were allowed to run more boos than purpose built racing engines. Buick took advantage of this. The V6 powered cars were among the fastest qualifiers, but reliability was a problem. Still it was fund to watch them qualify,

The first 20 laps can be interesting, the last 20 are too. The rest...not so much. Someone on here said skittles in a toilet bowl. Now every time I watch it I can't get that image out of my head. 500 miles of follow the leader gets kind of boring to me. I do have to tune in every now and then. Listening to a V8 turn 8000 RPMs does put a rather large smile on my face. If they would make the turns tight enough so they actually had to slow down and shift it would be even better.

This ^ It was good to see an old school team like the Wood Brothers pull one off.In the atmosphere of Mega Million Dollar race teams hiring the latest haircut to shill for the sponsors it was refreshing to see them in the winners circle with a talented, well spoken young driver. Class act.
