Grampa's 69 AMX at Orlando Speed World on Funday Sunday. It was fun!

It's a 1969 AMC AMX and it's still almost all there. VIN plate, lights, street equipment, license plate, etc. The hood, bumpers, and decklid are fiberglass, everything else is steel. Front subframe is still stock, runs a Mustang II front end with a manual rack. Ford 9" rear all built up with a spool and runs a 16x32 M/T ET Drag. The engine is set back like 16" and the whole interior is stripped and tinned with a 8.90 Certified cage. The motor right now is literally a junkyard 360 from a 1977 Jeep my uncle pulled out a few months ago. Completely stock long block with a Torker intake and a Barry Grant carb running an MSD ignition through a 7AL. They are screwing around with nitrous in the car for the first time as it traditionally runs with an all-AMC 401 that's totally built and runs 8's, but that motor is down for a fresh shortblock. It was running 10.20's on spray but the solenoid crapped out so we were running it all motor and doing 11.60's @115. The trans is a Powerglide with a 4500RPM stall and a trans brake.
Yes, I pulled the wheels with a smog-era AMC 360.

Factory color called Big Bad Blue. The bumpers are painted from the factory with that color, too. They also did BB Green and BB Orange.

So you're saying chassis is important?
This is awesome by the way. Wheelie is on my bucket list.

Chassis is everything! 1.66 60's and 1.2G on launch with that boat anchor.
The widespread access to dynojets and the availability of cheap turbochargers has made people forget about the importance of chassis tuning. They just brag about their 1500 hp and 12 second timeslip.
Kudos to you for doing it right.

Nobody forgot they just are setting cars up 1K hp cars for 1/2 and 1 mile events now that need the power and not the violent launch.
Well done! Congrats
I also pulled a wheelie for the first time last year, but I totally cheated. It was in a Dodge Demon on a prepped track. None of the blood sweat and tears you've put in----- kudos! I'm sure your runs were a lot more satisfying than mine. (and mine were pretty damn fun!)

Thank you. Gramps is trying to get me to buy this car from him, but seeing as how I do not have a truck or a trailer and it's literally on the opposite side of the country from me, it's not going to happen. I do want to drag race more now as I drove my Dad's AMX at the same event (which is 11's capable) and it's a 390/4-speed car that was a lot more violent and fun to drive. It would be fun to get the Cobra in those times and retain the A/C, PS, CC, etc it has that the classics don't.
My last wheelie was mostly chassis set up too. It looked something like this:
Yours is more impressive, though.
I have to admit, I'm harboring thoughts of turning this into the ultimate CAM-T car...
The sheer hilarity of pulling the wheels at a National ProSolo would be worth it.
My first wheelie was in a car that barely ran 12s. I later watched a guy set the stock engine record for a foxbody at the same track. He pulled the wheels and ran 11s with 220hp. I learned alot about chassis and gearing from that guy.

Sounds like you need a new project suggestion. I nominate a diesel swapped Grand Wagoneer as a tow pig. With wood paneling on the side.
