I'm definitely loving this car the more I drive it. I just left for a tdy until Saturday. Drove the car to work at 430am and got on her at about 90mph, boy did she fly. Just pulled and pulled.

I'll definitely look into doing some of the maintenence in the very near future.

For now she's parked at work waiting for me to return.

My coworker 2014 m5 peaking in the background.

Need more "intimate" pictures of the car.

but in fairness, they did fail at 70mph with no damage other than guides and tensioners (Vigo, correct me if I'm wrong)

I would say it was incredibly lucky. The tensioner pistons popped out and were laying around inside just waiting to get lodged between a chain and sprocket which would have broken the timing cover and bent all the valves. But yes, it worked out this time!

Yupididit, am I allowed to say i'm glad you ended up in something a 'bit' more classy than a 1g cts? I feel like this car is closer to what you sounded like you were looking for.

Not really, the only glaring fault is the timing chain guides and lack of a limited slip.

Once the guides are replaced with the updated metal ones, it is a super solid car.

I've been following that thread since the beginning because I love 6.2 AMG's. But, this car isnt as expensive to buy or maintain as the AMG. There's an XJR parts car with a good motor 20 min from my house. I can grab the engine for $1,000 if I wanted. I already text him for a lot of backup parts.

I've always wanted one of these. Congrats on the find.

If you have limited tool selection this car (XJR) would kick your butt to do the work we did (timing chains/guides/tensioners, supercharger coupling, coolant hoses in the valley of the engine etc) but as far as actual parts cost i dont think its ANYWHERE near something like Mazdeuce's R63.

Jag forums have a few local guys who rent them out to you got the guide job. The rest of the car seems to be 10mm and 14mm. I do have a good amount of tools since I play around with mostly Mercedes, Ford, and Mitsubishi

You wouldn't believe how difficult it is to get the throttle body and its elbow out. You would probably never need to, but we elected to do exploratory surgery due to play in the supercharger snout (installed a solid coupler and fresh SC oil) and then once the SC was out decided to replace the coolant hoses underneath it that would have been infuriating to have let go anytime soon after having it apart. So suffice to say the top of the motor is annoying enough that even someone like me felt the need to replace stuff that didn't look bad out of trepidation of repeating the labor of taking it apart. We used all my lengths and styles of stubby and flex ratcheting wrenches and wobble sockets and extensions at some point or other.

Funnily enough, though, I ended up making my own cam-holding tool out of a flat piece of steel and some square-handled tools that i tightened down on top of the cams.

It's terrifying how cheap these are. If I had some self control I could probably afford to buy one on my part time retail income. I'd probably never be able to afford anything else after I bought one though.

They're NOT normally this cheap.

That won't stop people from trying to depreciate any other XJR that comes up for sale. "$8000? What a ripoff! A guy I know just bought one for..."

I think the one I found accidentally was an older straight 6 car. May have had something to do with my findings.

I bought this from a pretty wealthy man who needed to make space for another car in his garage. And he needed the space quickly. I was extremely lucky.

Exactly. Would love to keep it stored somewhere and use it for my pickings. Unfortunately my garage has two conquest/starion sitting in there (one a parts car).

We'll see if he takes my offer.

I want to get this thing on a dyno. So, I'll be replacing the timing chain tensioners before dyno just to be safe. Whatever maintenance needs done before any mods.

I'm also upgrading the intercooler pump to a Bosch 010. Then DMH electric exhaust cutouts. And eventually 18" or 19" wheels. Then maybe a pully and a tune

Yeah, they kinda are. I'm half-heartedly looking for a set of those Asteroid rims for my own XJR. They aren't super cheap.

Good on ya, I think you'll love it for a really long time.

Those Asteroid wheels are 18" already.

The Asteroids (and blacked out trim) are what sold me on mine when I bought it.

I miss it.

Something aftermarket. You have to be really picky with aftermarket wheels on these cars. Really easy to pick a wheel that looks terrible.

Thats way down the road. Unless I find a set of these
