I was so lucky to have come of age in the 80's and grwn up when Group B was going nuts and remember these cars being launched and run.

That's huge money for a car that isn't a real Group B, though. I know the faux/street versions were also very rare (200) but nonetheless, for that sort of money you would want something authentic.

It shows how far we have come - those cars produced just under 200 BHP. The Group B cars more than doubled that. Today, a Cobalt with a 2 litre LNF Ecotec and a turbo upgrade can equal that and still get 25 mpg! Come to think of it, find yourself a regular street going 205 and a wrecked Cobalt SS and swap the engine. You'd save yourself about $90,000!

The one thing those cars did have over what we get today is lightness.

Being an MG guy, I'd probably opt for a Metro 6R4. They also built the obligatory 200 of those for homologation, and only 20 race cars. I've always wondered what it would have been like with one of the later turbo versions of the V6 engine as used in the Jag XJ220. Probably extremely scary!

What was the race weight of a prepped Group B racer?

I'd rather have a later 306 kit car.

But, I'd dump the Pug in a flash for the Xsara:

If I hit the lotto I'l lbuy it and put up with it being a 'street' version

As for the 6R4, I remember seeing Will Gollop's twin turbo rallycross version at Brands hatch for the British rallycross GP. Rallycross is where many Group B cars went after they were banned from rallying. Unfrekin belivably fast accel on dirt.

Will's car was 'rumord' to make somewhere between 500-800hp depending on who you belive.

I really want a 205 to stuff my Mi16 engine in, although I may settle for just those wheels.
