my not quite 3 month old daughter was playing on the floor as i was watching the NASCAR Cup race from Watkins Glen today... i noticed that she was watching the cars more than the toys dangling above her, and she would get mad when it went to commercial. she even started crying when Kyle Busch passed Danica Patrick for the lead:

she did this with the race at Pocono last week, too, as well as with the Trans AM race that i watched the other night and the Indycar race they showed while Pocono was rained out last sunday.. the only other tv show that holds her attention like this is Star Trek:TNG. she doesn't even notice when cartoons are on or when the girlfriend watches one of her "rednecks building treehouses out of old log cabins while they hunt for bigfoot" or whatever reality show she watches on a given day..

she also loves riding in my 86 Camaro- she can be balling her eyes out but she shuts up and coos a bit as soon as it starts up..

can't wait to get her out to the local go kart track to check that action out next summer, as well as the local dirt tracks and even a trip up to Brainerd to see if that holds her attention..

she also likes sitting in the stroller and watching me work on my cars outside and in the garage..

Well, Star Trek TNG has me and both daughters (10 & 5 y/o) lying on my bed for hours!

Ya know what's fun? Ya know those magnetic pencil/iron filings drawing boards? I used to draw every car logo I could think of and test my kids. They got really good at it.

By the way, that's a beautiful baby there!

When my son, Elliot, was 3 months old we would sit and watch youtube videos when he got up. The content was always car/engine related. Fast forward, his first word was "car". His favorite movie is Disney's Cars.

I think you are off to a great start

My 7 month daughter loves to watch racing!

She also loves baseball and hockey.

Everything else makes her cry.

She is attending her first crapcan race in September. We bought her little baby earmuffs.

When my wife was about 2 months pregnant she did a chump race at watkins glen. It was the only weekend she felt well and didn't get sick.

When riding in a car and our baby gets a little fussy, if you hit the gas or take a corner quickly, she giggles and goes to sleep!

Oh, I forgot the part where metal music also calms her down.. she sat on my lap totally enthralled by the thrash videos I was watching on YouTube last weekend.. anthrax, testament, slayer, suicidal tendencies- even the ones that weren't actual videos and just had the album cover art up..

And here I am watching old school Winnie the Pooh multiple times a day. My son is 20 months old.

My twin boys are 8 months now, but we've been watching racing with them since the beginning. Like you guys said, it holds their attention better than most TV. They seem to like the in-car shots the best. I know it probably has something to do with the colors, motion, and how infants are hard-wired, but I don't care - I'm proud as all heck.

You had a baby!? Somehow I missed that. Congrats, man. I might be at CMP with my little one (getting bigger every day at 19 months) so hopefully we can coo at each other's babies.
