Back on the computer, let's try some pictures now. We washed it and wiped it down inside and out and a good vacuum last weekend. Looks good, but needs a real 3 stage buffing to really shine.

Pics work if you're logged into a Google or Gmail account when you load the page, but they don't show otherwise.
I'm really sick of photo hosting sites. I've tried so many and can't get what I want to work easily. Let's try photo bucket.
Those worked. All posted from your phone? I have photobucket, but I've never found it very user-friendly.
Those were photobucket from my laptop, I did t want to keep posting pics that didn't work from my phone, and apparently the google images that I thought would work from my laptop also didn't work. Glad the last set worked. Now I can start a build thread.
That's a good looking car. It's pretty cool to compare that to my van and see how strong the design language was back then. Looking forward to the build thread.

I still contend that running wires from the seat to the door is needlessley complicated. Maybe there is is group of owners that have never had power seats and can't figure out the 'by feel' method?
Yup, there is a lot going on in that door and therefore lots of wires that will flex many many times. Mercedes has been doing it this way for quite a while, I remember the 1985 300SD my dad bought new also had the same basic seat controls on the doors, next to the inner door handle.
In reply to Sonic:
yep. When the ex- did a light restoration on her parent's 300SD she noticed one of the switch covers was broken/missing. Despite being 30-odd years old, the seat controls still worked fine, although she did replace one of the motors. Fortunately, door switch replacements are easy to get. That does seem to be one good thing about buying a Benz: it seems they will support the car essentially forever, provided you're willing to pay for the parts.
Ah... Whenever I post pictures from Photobucket, it's from my laptop as well. I was hoping for something more stream-lined where I could go straight phone to hosting site to thread post without having to download first. Right now it's: phone -> laptop -> Photobucket -> thread post.
It would awesome if there was some way to embed a photo hosting site into your forum profile so that you could post a photo straight to a thread from your phone, but the photo was actually hosted on the user's photo site. Sadly, such code is far beyond my meager/nonexistent web skills.
Looks Great! Damn clean car.
In reply to Ian F:
Imgur, can do it all from the phone, its still copy and paste links, but it works.
My van, which is the same generation, has them on the seats. That's the only reason I was found the door placement interesting.

Yup, ever since the w126.
Great choice, I was considering these but ended up going with something cheaper...2006 M45 Sport. First atuo luxobarge and I could not like it more. It really is great having the right tool for the job (ie. DD commuting duty). Also depreciation is our friend, I bought the car for less than the options originally cost.
As much as I love my lithe and agile little cars (Ie. FRS) for autox and track duty, they are underwhelming in A - B mindless work. I would much rather be bathed in the generous 14 speaker sound system and have "adequate" passing power.
In a couple years, with the aid of our friend depreciation I plan to move to a 500+hp AMG product or S7/RS7. Love them 4 door coupes.

That's how Mercedes has done it for a long time. My 84, 85, 87, and 92 all have the power seat adjusters on the door and they all work, so it's a pretty decent setup I guess.
Mine has them on the seat and honestly, I don't think I've adjusted the seats on any Mercedes newer than the one I rallycross every now and again and those are manual seats.
I like learning things here.
With modern Canbus that switch does not require any additional wiring, just plugs into the network...
(I think.)

I'm looking for a similar car but partial to AWD because I'm in Upstate NY for snow. I'm curious as you drive it more to hear your impressions on how the suspension can soak up pot holes and rough roads in comfort mode. From my research it's looking like air suspension is the only way to go if you want comfort and performance sometimes. I'm sick of having my teeth rattled by the crappy roads here but occasionally want to take an off ramp at 60 etc.
In reply to DirtyDiesel:
The ride is quite nice in comfort mode and significantly firmer in sport 2 mode. This car has the performance package which apparently stiffens up the sport mode more than the regular AMG, which is stiffer than the non AMG. Even in sport 2 th ride is still softer than my M coupe, and the cars are on the same size tires. I do my best to avoid potholes mostly because of the tiny expensive sidewalls and very expensive 2 piece AMG wheels that are almost unobtanium, but the ride over the ones I do hit is usually quite good. Turning sport mode on does significantly increase the body control.
