I don't have the money for a used Bridgeport or anything, but I am looking for a decent variable speed drill press that I can use for light metal fab work- i.e. notching and drilling, etc. I'd ideally like to put a workholding vice on the table (I have a nice Kurt unit from work that I "acquired") if I can afford it.

Is craigslist the answer for this, or should I save my pennies for something new and nice? Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks in advance.

We have a Jet one at work. Its very very nice, my only complaint is the chuck is a taped shaft and just press fit. It falls out occasionally.... I wouldn't hesitate to buy one for myself though.

I got a large floor standing Delta on craigslist for $200. It has done everything I've asked for it in my shop through 3 race car builds.

If it's not staying in there's something wrong with the tapers, dirt, oil, dinged up, or just poorly cut (can be fixed with blue loctite).
