In reply to David S. Wallens: I stayed there with my wife once a long time ago. About all I remember is that the acoustics were a little weird.
This is some kind of perfection. Quonset garage, living quarters, and a tower. All it needs is the matching strip for hoonery.

I remember reading maybe even on here about some old abandoned missle silo's in upstate NY that were for sale. I think they were out in the Adirondak area near 914driver. They also had plenty of land attached to them with large paved areas for hoonage. I think I remember them having a small ranch style house above ground, and then several hundred feet of livable space underground. I think I would like to live in one of those some day. May be a little creepy at first, but I would get over it I bet.
I really, really need a garage like the original post shows so I can have "my" place to put all the automotive and sports memorabilia, and automotive furniture that I keep accumulating. When we move to our retirement house I'll need a 1500 sq.ft. house and a similarly sized, or larger garage. Maybe I'm spending too much time on the Garage Journal forums.

That'd do it . I'm after junkyard-cheap, though.

Ha! Figures, I just scrapped a Saturn block a year ago...would've worked perfectly.

What's "cheap"?

I got 47 acres to play with. I needs me a man cave since the wife has COMPLETELY taken over the new house. LOL
To keep them cool in the summer (and warm in the winter), just spray foam inside, then shotcrete. See monolithic.com for details (though they want you to buy an air form, and will tell you that the Quonset won't work). The shotcrete acts as a massive "heat battery", and the insulation keeps the fluctuations to a minimum.
I was thinking a big enough Quonset with power and water to pull a park model camper trailer into. Live in the trailer, play in the quonset...
An indoor basketball court - even a half-court would be fun. Maybe make a rink inside in the winter - with overhead lights of course. The ice wouldn't have to be very thick.
Pump track? Skate park? Pitch and putt? Small go-kart track? Etc.?
I live in a log cabin on the top of a mountain in the Adirondacks, in NY. I really like the idea of an underground structure. I have blasted a spot for one on my property. It will be my garage. It will be set into the face of a small cliff. A wall of front windows will look over the mountains. It will have a large insulated garage door that can be closed at night to keep warmth in and to shut it up in storms. I will spend my days looking over the mountains and building cars.
The loads from buying a structure are very high. A Quonset hut is not engineered to be buried.
I really like all things that are out of the ordinary.
