So I'm pretty dead set on getting a '19 Miata. At first, I had my mind made up.

'19 Roadster, Club, White, Manual. Done. Still gets the BOSE and heated seats.

I didn't care about the extra nannies or leather of the GT. However, it somehow escaped me until recently that the GT has a thicker and quieter top. That seems like a definite want since it will be only car.

But when you go to the GT, the "white" becomes "pearl white." I can't stand pearl white, to me it always looks like it has a thin layer of dust all over  the car even when clean. This doubly bothers me because I really like the optional Auburn Nappa leather option of the GT.  And I don't see that interior looking really good with anything but true white or black.

This will be the 3rd black car I've purchased new because they weren't offered in a true white. At least this time, I'll make sure to have my buddy ceramic coat it immediately.

Unlike most of us here, you're actually allowed to complain about this as you've purchased at least 3 cars new.

I too chose to complain about the Miata color/interior color options.  I want the 19' Eternal Blue Mica RF GT-S with the Auburn nappa leather.  Mazda says no you cannot has.

I get to complain as I have purchased 5+ of new manual transmission vehicles.   Sad trombone.

I am currently waiting on a bright non red colored Miata.  Hoping the 30AE actually is coming in orange like the current rumors.

Is it just the top or the top and leather that's a must?  If it's just the top any idea how much it'll be to swap it for the quieter top?  Obviously not ideal since it's a new car, but if that's the only thing keeping you from the ideal car maybe it's worth the hassle?

Just the top. But the GT also comes with leather.

When I had the best shop in town quote a quality top replacement on my '06 Miata a few years ago, it was going to be $1800. The thought of buying a new car and immediately putting a new top on it is a no go for me.

I really just want to do with it like I did the BRZ.

Suspension, wheels, cat back, enjoy. And not mess around with anything else.

Unless it's an E85 tune. devil

That would be a seriously classy look.

My car is a pearl white.  I doesn't look like a thin layer of dust though.  It looks like a thick layer of dirt is covering the whole car.  Its probably because I never wash it though.

This whole “package” concept instead of ala carte options sucks for true car enthusiasts.  It’s great for dealers and assembly lines but sucks for people that know what they want and equally as important, don’t want.  I have bought over a dozen new cars, and this is one of the reasons, I may never do that again.  What can you offer me new that a two year old CPO car doesn’t have?  Nothing except more money out of my pocket.

I put out a query locally for a well discounted ‘18 ND club soft top....  no one wanted to play.  Well I can wait for a CPO 19 Club just as easily or more easily.

I assume you've done this but worth checking - you've driven both tops and found the lower quality one unacceptable for noise?  Or between the top and leather the white color is just not that attractive?

I have a bias against black cars b/c of how freakin hard it is to keep it looking decent, but that's my bias.  :)

If that is the same white they are putting on their other cars, I agree with you.  I don't like heavy pearl either (Cadillac is the worst offender here) but the Mazda white (at least one of them) has a very gray tint to it.   Putting huge amounts pearl and metal flake (especially metal flake) in paint is pretty much standard in new cars now.

Just have a pure white!  Is that so hard?

Haven't been able to yet. There are only two Mazda dealers in the OKC metro and so far they've only received a few RFs. I've read good things about how much quieter the GT top is. And it's apparently thick enough it actually touches the Hard Dog bar, where the Sport/Club model do not.

I agree on keeping black cars looking good. That's why I'll have it ceramic coated like I did my 135. After that, the only thing you really even have to "scrub" is the brake dust off the wheels. Everything else comes right off with a quick rinse.

First of all, congrats! I can only dream of fitting in a Miata, and then of owning a new ND2. What great cars!

Second, they clearly restricted the better top to the GT because otherwise nobody would ever purchase one, if the Club has the LSD and heated seats and nice stereo. Welcome to mass-market manufacturer trim levels. At least they are not doing the a-la-carte like the luxury makes, which just gets you with the same lack of choice on the dealer lot but with a much, much higher price.

The flip side of this is that Porsche will build the car however you like but will charge you through the nose for every little ala carte item, as they don't really do packages.

I totally get it, I'm looking at buying my first brandy new car in the next few years and you get stuck spending thousands of dollars on a "technology" package when all you really want is one thing.

Pretty much, I'll also get the GT-S package, not necessarily for the strut bar or Bilsteins, but for the LSD. Sure the stock one won't be an OS Giken or something, but $550 is way cheaper than you could ever buy the stock one and have it installed for.

Yeah, IIRC, the GT is basically leather, thicker top, a few more nannies, than add $550 for the shock tower brace, bilsteins, and LSD isn't too bad.

One of the few advantages to being short, although I need to work on the width. When I used to ride sportbikes, I could barely get both feet down on my tip toes.

Blah. My 350Z was pearl white, no matter how clean and waxed it was always looked grimy.

That said, after looking at it some more. I think the black, black top, with auburn interior will look better anyway.

White with auburn interior.........then do you go black top or brown top?

There are at least three white options for the ND Miata, assuming you count Ceramic as white. There may be more. I’ve seen a very pure white on a 16 GT.

As for the options, the GT-S is my pick as well. The thicker top is immediately noticeable and I just like the interior and auto HVAC better than the Club.

Good problems to have :)
