but they didn't make the camera. With Minissan winning the Ebay Motors Master contest, Rhonnie and I got a trip to the SEMA show. As discussed at the Challenge, since Ebay wimped out and didn't bring the winning cars to SEMA that I should wear my clown suit. By the end of the first day out there I wish I had brought the clown garb. But I did wear my red Doc's with yellow shoe laces... They had us as guests on a show called MOTORZ TV showing how to put on bolt on parts with minimal tools. The video was just posted, it took over 2 hours to put the chin spoiler on but it's edited wayyyyyy down. The other guy helping (Ken) won the muscle car division by building the Lamborghini in his basement, a very well known build. Minissan and the home made Lamborghini would have been a big hit out there, but Ebay wanted to sweep us under the rug. Here's the video, yes I look tired/bored, it's not the Challenge... MOTORZ TV

lemme get this straight...the two of you build cars from scratch essentially and create amazing solutions for any problems you may have along the way and they ask you to put a sticker on the trunk and clip on a front air dam.

love the Minissan

Instead of telling us what sucked about the trip what was cool fun etc.

Your description above reminds me of some one winning a miata and complaining that you have to put gas in it.

If you were board and it came through on the TV are you surprised that you were "swept under the rug?". Put on a happy face make the install fun and exciting for the viewer "hype it up" and you would have / could have been a star. Dam it man this is the FAST CLOWN we are talking about here. Even with out the get up you should have played that angel. Had some fun. I watched the video and almost fell asleep. The monotone quality of the audio is sad. You had a huge opportunity!!!

Sorry your trip sucked. Many would have actually paid to have that opportunity. Hell I just wish I could get to SEMA some year.

Your shoes did make the camera! When the other guy was working in the wheel well, your shoes were in the top right corner of the screen.

Haven't watched the whole thing yet but this struck me. Why oh why does Ford like to mix metric and US fasteners on their cars? It drives my nutz!!!!

I saw your shoes! There was a shot of them in the background, I think it was while the other guy was laying on the floor. Made me smile.

I didn't say the trip sucked. We (Lambo winner, 3 wheel Can-Am into a car winner, and us) had a GREAT time laughing at how we were swept under the rug. Every time we were scheduled to go back to the Ebay booth they out did themselves, it was a hoot! The other winners actually have about the same sense of humor/sarcasm as I do, imagine 3 of me! We ran into a lot of old racing friends and hung out with Pobst both nights. Seeing all of the displays and our wonderful friends from GRM was great, going out at night was entertaining as well. Trying to explain why the winning cars weren't there got old... I entered the contest to get Minissan to SEMA in hopes to promote the only national elementary school drug prevention program that would make a difference, no luck, sorry kids, there's still no national campaign for you, good luck....

When they gave us a schedule for the MOTORZ deal the first day it had Ken and I installing a carpet kit in the back of a truck. I stayed up all night rolling and unrolling our hotel bedspread so I would do it right the next morning, the pressure was on... The reason I look so dead is that the 1/2 shoot lasted 3 hours. When the opening was shot we were already behind and my blood sugar was dropping fast (lunch time). Chris (the host) said to to get ready... I asked if we're supposed to look into the camera or at the French fries next to it. The MOTORZ thing was a little frustrating trying to cram our heads under a spoiler to try and find all of the hidden screws/bolts/plugs. But at least we didn't have to do the truck carpet kit, I never got the bedspread down to a science.

So, we made some new friends, saw some old ones, won some cash, got a free trip, and for that it was GREAT! We all doubt they will be doing the contest next year....

boo berkeleying hoo. attention-whore clown doesn't get enough free stuff, so he publicly insults the company who:

  1. publicly honored his car by choosing it as a category winner, and
  2. provided him and his wife a trip to SEMA.

weak.

The shoe shot is funny, thanks!

"attention-whore clown" You got that right. Without getting out there I'll never find someone that both cares about kids and is in the position to do something about it. I guess if I was successful with my campaign there would be less crack-whores in the US and you would be lonely, sorry I'm trying to take that away from you...

Not enough free stuff, where did I say that? Do you mean by them not taking the cars to SEMA, a lot of people couldn't believe it. One of the winners called Famous at Ebay Motors a few weeks in advance and asked why... He said it's difficult to bring a car to SEMA. First you have to have your battery disconnected. Next you have to have an empty gas tank. And finally they didn't want to deal with insurance. The first two are obviously easy if I can find the battery and gas tank in the car I built from scratch, in regards to the insurance the winner said to have Ebay's attorneys right up anything and he would sign it. Famous said no it's to difficult.

We paid for Rhonnies trip and I don't see where I'm insulting any company, it was just a simple and true statement, everybody there would agree, while laughing...

At SEMA Rhonnie heard someone else say something about a mullet while taking a picture, which just goes to show that our education system is failing as well. Good for a laugh though.... thanks!

Sorry but he nailed how your post came across. Like it or not!

Couple things to considder.

  1. 99% of the people out there dont give a rats you know what about your cause. Everyone will smile and say "that is nice" but when it really comes down to it you will be standing alone.

  2. Was there any implication that EBay was going to promote your cause? Get a clue, they were doing this to promote Ebay not your cause. If you can find anything in the written agreement between you and eBay that specifically said that they will promote your cause I will donate $20.00 to that cause!

  3. What you should have done: Contacted ebay and asked for some sort of promotion. And how to do this you ask? Simple auction off the trip that you won, with all the proceeds going to your charity. It would have been a win win for both you and Ebay. I am also sure that you could have got some free publicity from the good folks here at grm to promote the auction as well. I would have bid on that!!!!.

Have you actually thought about the legal ramifications of Ebay tossing there weight behind your charity? The cost for there legal team to research this charity would be at least a 5 figure expenditure. Did you ever think of that? As a business owner I am asked to support and donate to the charities of my clients. I use to do this kind of thing all the time and with little thought. This was up to the time when the FBI came a knocking wanting to know about donations made to specific charitable organizations. You have know idea the legal costs that I incurred. It sucks but it is the reality of the world we live in.

Lastly you should considder if they really care about the charity that you are crusading for. Obviously it is near and deer to your hart. I doubt they care about it.

Now you still have not told us any cool things that you saw at SEMA.

Haha, you don't have to say a thing. Just bask in it.

I just saw that I wrote "even" when I meant "ever". Irony!

Wow, that was a great rant that had nothing to do with anything I said. That's the evil beauty of the internet, people not having a clue after reading way more into something...

Quite simply, I wanted Minissan there with my website on the windshield and to meet people that Minissan drew in. I think my quote "I entered the contest to get Minissan to SEMA in hopes to promote..." says it quite simply. How that could be mis-read is wayyyy beyond me. I said nothing about Ebay supporting my campaign so your advice wasn't needed, butt thanks!

I have to stop reading GRM threads while drinking soda. I now have to wet-vack gingerale out of the keyboard.

Sorry Fastclown but one of the biggest problems with the Internet is the perception of what one types. Since it appears I am not the only one that miss interpreted your original rant I dont see that I am in the wrong here. However I am also big enough to apologise if I have been completely wrong in my assessment of your posts.

Ohya my offer of $20 stands!!! Hell just give me a paypal address and I will send $20 to the children's charity of your choice. If not I will make a donation to the Shriners Children's Hospitals in the name of The Fastclown. This happens to be the charity of my choice. Ultimatly this is more important than all this.

Now again I ask what was cool at SEMA. There must have been some great cars there. Post up some photos. Who did you rub shoulders with? Tell us you hung out with Jay Leno or were giving Chip Foose advise on car mods. We want to live vicariously through you!!!!
