In reply to NermalSnert :

I could use it in our vehicles, go karts and lawn mowers after the storms are over.

The issue is filling it.

Buy the 55 gallon drum of gas from supplier (full) use it up and return it with the next new barrel. The fuel company should deliver....

I have a generator for power outages here in hurricane country. My biggest concern is not getting it stolen overnight.

I heard about someone that woke up in the morning to discover that the small engine they heard running out back was the neighbor's (stolen and left at his house) lawnmower.

After the rain stopped.

Sitting in the doorway of my garden shed, on the back of the detached garage. Fans to keep it cool and disperse the exhaust.

While still raining.

At night, I shut it down and lock it up.

The photos probably don't show the heavy chain around the frame.

So is the problem that you want them to be able to fill it easily?  But it's not a self-starting generator, so they have to go in the shed regardless?

I am a big fan of the new lever-valve gas cans.  They come with a safety that I promptly remove.  You turn it upside down in the tank, but nothing comes out until you press the lever.  I had really high hopes for the ones that you stick it in the tank and push down to open the valve.  They have that auto-stop function when the tank gets full it stops flowing, but I've had too many of those stick open when you stop filling and it makes a mess.

Fortunately, the marine world has you covered.  Just stick a hose down in a gas can and the tank and put one of these in the hose.  They'll get arthritis squeezing the bulb 85 times, but it works.

That’s so funny, a just bought a 2 gallon lever can yesterday as a short term solution. But I’d want to add that there’s no “shed” to be in. It may be been confusing using the term shed but it’s what they’re called. I posted a picture of the “shed” on page 2. This location and it’s ability to be opened up helps with fumes hanging around but presents other issues. Full gas cans are stored in an adjacent, similar tool/toy shed several feet from the generator.

Eventually the plan is to use sound deadening, intake and exhaust fans and an insulated exhaust routed to the exterior so the box can be mostly closed while running but for now it gets opened up and the heat melts any snow that gets in.
