At this point i'm pretty well set on tearing out the interior and replacing at least some of it with jade green suede ( I have no idea where i'm getting that, or how to do an interior, but that's for another time) and I want a wheel like this- but I figure on recovering it with the same suede- and doing some tie dye thread to match the neo.....

Sounds like some hippy crap to me. 'Murica

The SRS sticker in Miyuki says the airbags should be serviced every 5 years or something, so that sounds like justification for an aftermarket steering wheel to me.

Owners manual in my 2001 Allroad said that for liability reasons they recommended replacing ALL the airbags every 10 years. Just out of morbid curiosity I looked into the cost of doing that in 2009. It was double what the car was worth at that time.

I work in Washington.

Most of our airbags are a lot older than that.

As for how safe they are, opinions differ.

YMMV

True dat. Some people should replace the Takata airbags with an older airbag, maybe.

Normally, that would be an instant no from me. But, for some reason, I'm really digging it. Proceed with your plan.
