I don't know much about AMC products, but for some reason, I find myself drawn to this '69 Ambassador two-door hardtop:

Are parts really "readily available" as the seller claims? If I got tired of the 232, would an AMC V8 be easy to swap in? This line in the Wikipedia entry for "AMC straight-6 engine" makes me stop and think:
"The 1971 and older blocks use a "small" bell housing bolt pattern that is exclusive to AMC and small Nash sixes."
Any thoughts or observations about full-size AMC coupes (or Star Wars) are welcome and appreciated.
Wow, that's in shockingly good condition.

That is an unusually clever star wars reference: 10 points!
Also, that car looks pretty sweet. Honestly, with engine bays like that, i dont see how motor swaps are anything to worry about. SOMETHING that is cheap will fit easily.
Does an amc 252 fit that bellhousing? If so, that plus a 4.0L cylinder head would be plenty for cruising if you wanted something more than stock that didnt break the bank or take too much effort.
I'd say the two other vintage AMCs in the picture speak well of this car being as-represented.
I don't even like those cars but that seems like a bargain.
looks like a clean car but it also looks like someone took a 65-66 fairlane and hit it with the ugly stick
If you do get it and want to swap engines I would certainly love to have that engine. I could build it up just like a 4.0 but it should drop in and hook up to the column shifted transmission in my brother's '50 Nash. Same basic engine as the newer stuff but different bell housing bolt pattern.
Jeep 4.0 drops in, no? The AX-15 should have plenty of room too. Plenty of room in the bay for forced induction.

I'd go with an aw4 over the ax 15 for fi the ax15 is only good to around 300 ft lbs.

Eh, if you keep stockish tire size and open diff on that Ambassador you'd never have enough traction to break an ax-15 with pure power.
That is in very good shape! The 69 uses trunnions in the front, which suck, but is otherwise solid. Parts are easily available. AMC V8's bolt right in. That color is 1 year only Bittersweet Orange Metallic, which is rare and desirable.
Dad has a 69 Ambo sedan V8 with 300k+ miles on it. Great cruiser.
In reply to MrChaos:
The AX-15 being primarily a 4x4 box, with all the rotating mass(think in terms of the shock of getting all that driveline moving) and traction that goes with it, I think that rating is quite low in terms of street/strip use, it'd probably handle 300ft/lbs on drag slicks with a hard launch.

I find that car oddly attractive.
This gave me a confuse. Being a "Mustang guy" I saw strut towers with no struts. I assume these "spring towers" are a byproduct of the trunnion front suspension Javelin was referring to.
That is in nice shape. For some strange reason, I'd like to have a Hornet 2 door notchback.
Ok,trunnions. Had to go look to see what the suspension looked like. It looks like this.
BTW, that is not a bad looking car...

This looks fantastic!!!
The OP car seems like a steal. Investment-wise, it seems like you'll never lose money, just because of the mileage. It's certainly interesting. I'd just wonder how much of a nightmare parts would be to get.
should have taken a pic of the suspension under a car for you guys yesterday when i had the wheels off the rambler. same everything, and it looks identical under the hood save for v8 vs l6.
Somthing about a bench seat that I really like. All you kids out there probibly dont have a clue why we people over 40 like them so much LOL Best seat ever for going on a date.
