He'll eat for a day:

(from: http://autos.yahoo.com/blogs/motoramic/truck-driver-wins-lamborghini-crashes-hours-later-220724449.html)

"Thanks to a Utah convenience store's contest, Frito-Lay truck driver David Dopp won another set of wheels last Saturday: this lime-green, 631-hp Lamborghini Murcielago LP-640, worth at least $200,000. Such an awesome car that will...oops, he already wrecked it.

Just a few hours after getting the keys to the V-12 powered Italian supercar named for a famed Spanish fighting bull, Dopp took to the roads around his home in Santaquin, Utah. According to In Santaquin News, police were called about dusk after a witness spotted the all-wheel-drive Lambo bass-ackwards in a field, with skidmarks from where it left the road.

Dopp -- who had apparently already taken one call from the local police about takin' it easy before going off-road -- says he was going about 40 mph to 50 mph on a 35-mph road when he hit a patch of what he called black ice or gravel. The police report says the car went over a curb, off the road and 75 feet into the field, calling the accident "speed related."

The Murcielago is now bound for Las Vegas, where mechanics will calculate a repair estimate on the busted oil pan and damaged bumper. Dopp, who has insurance, says the day was "an emotional roller coaster." If you mess with a bull, don't be surprised when you get the horns."

(just goes to show, I guess)

I wonder, if I won something like that, if I would even take delivery of it, or whether I'd arrange its sale before anything could happen to it.

After all, if I won $200,000, I would not under any conditions go out and blow it all on a Lamborghini.

At least as long as he can finagle paying for the repairs, he should still be well ahead after selling the repaired car...

Funny how the damage looks "E36 M3'n expensive" and "not that bad" at the same time

I wouldn't keep it either, those cars seem to mostly be good for showing everyone you are a douche. Like for example that guy that who sold his house and bought one and drove it around the country until he blew the engine from not maintaining it, and many other examples I have seen.

Now wait a minute!

You can't tell me that every last one of you wouldn't give your left (body part of your choosing) to have the story to tell about how you won a Lambo and then just as you passed (insert gratuitous over zealous speed in here), hit a patch of black ice, and skidded the car over a cliff (it would be a cliff by the time you guys told it) and backward for at least (how many miles?) before stopping.

And due to your masterful driving skills the car was hardly hurt and you didn't even get a scratch or wet your pants.

nope.. not me. I would have sold it right away. I would have started it up and maybe driven it around the dealer's lot.. but I have no urge to own a lambo.. or even a modern ferrari.

In reply to carguy123:

Yep, I have to admit that's a pretty good story. But I bet I could go to the $2013 Challenge (including travel) for what it's going to cost to make those repairs...

And yes, I'd love to know what it feels like to drive that thing. Maybe I'd take it for a little drive. But I think it would probably confirm that I was too nervous driving around in something that expensive to really enjoy it.

this

I simply can't afford the upkeep.

A friend of mine who owns an '06 F430 pays $6k a year for an extended warranty of sorts. It just saved his butt BIGTIME when the car required $30k of repairs (cracked exhaust manifolds and a shot F1 actuator [for the tranny])

A truck driver simply can't afford to own a new Lambo.

And yes, I'd drive it a bit more carefully than he did, knowing how my damn Civic's summer tires grip in the cold (i.e. they don't).

I'd rather sell it and pay off my house.

It would be gone as fast as I could find a buyer. Even though I've been called an shiny happy person I have never been a douche.

OTOH winning a $200,000 anything counts as income. You pay taxes on it.

Local Kia dealer tried giving away a house and a Kia. Winner took the car, didn't want the house. He couldn't sell it for what the taxes would be. (it was in Florida)

I remember that guy. The engine grenaded after he failed to keep the timing chains tightened, which caused the valves and pistons to have dirty, dirty intercourse.

Real racing stories are more awesome.

I would have traded that silly thing for cash to buy a well prepped vintage race car with some scars and some enduring value.

Black ice. What a crock. There is ice, or not ice. Its all black when its on a paved road. Pay attention to what is going on around you, and you will not be surprised by the road surface.

I'd sell it after about a month or so but I'd enjoy it before it got uber expensive.

Yeah, didn't it go well over 100K miles before dying? I always thought Lambos couldn't take that kind of "abuse."
