I have over a dozen C-Clamp locking pliers, but they're all cheap stamped import items with swivel pads.
Even trash locking pliers are fine for most of the fabrication/sheet metal work I do. A little bit of grinding or welding on the over-center mechanism and they can all be made to work well in just a few minutes.
However, some future projects are going to require some regular jaw clamps to reach into flanges etc so while deep dive comparison shopping like only a SAHD with a napping child can, I found these Milwaukee Torque Lock clamps on a fire sale at Northern Tool. On sale at $13.99 (reg $34.99).
Unfortunately for my discretionary spending budget we have a new Northern Tool in a nearby city, and I bought out what they had yesterday while in town for a Dr appointment.
Now I've only played with them for a few minutes last night, but they are hands down the nicest locking pliers I've ever used. Satisfying tactile engagement, perfectly finished, and the release mechanism is shaped in a way that I literally could not find a way to pinch myself opening them.
Anyway, it's been a long time since I've been this impressed with a tool that's (temporarily) cheaper than the HF option. So get them while you can.
