Well, my car is at least. So, the weather was wonderfully rainy and dreary in NY today. I hop in my 2000 Altima to grab lunch. I look down and notice that my rubber mat in the driver's foot well has a small puddle of water on it. I pull it up and the carpet underneath is saturated with water. No water anywhere else. I'm thinking that one of the drainage tubes is clogged and funneling water into the car. Any thoughts?

As a side note, this car is annoying the crap out of me. Cracks in the tires, bolts rusting and snapping off, suspension issues. This car is not nearly fun enough (even with mods) to make me want to deal with all of this in the last two weeks. Whining over.

Same thing happened to my Mom's 2000 Maxima (similar car). Anyway, I figured the same as you and I googled it and saw others with this issue. I pulled it up on ramps, grabbed a coat hanger and carefully pushed it into the drain tube. What must have been a gallon of water flooded out onto my chest. Pretty funny. I figured some would come out, but I wasn't expecting that much! It clogged again a month later. I should have used compressed air instead of a coat hanger....

Welcome to the great state of New York. These issues are all the product of our terrible roads( and all of the salt used in winter). It's not just bolts that rust-you forgot to mention exhausts, doors, fenders, floors, trunks. If the leadership in Albany was smart (that's a HUGE "if"), they would talk the car and truck manufacturers into doing their longevity and reliability testing here. If a vehicle can survive New Yorks winter roads, it certainly would survive anything some third world underdeveloped jungle and/or desert could dish out. Instead of the Paris to Dakar Rally, they could organize a NYC to Buffalo rally. The only problem I see is that I don't think anyone could finish.

This is not the subject I expected, I wish to lodge a complaint....

Minimac,

I have already had to replace the exhaust and the power steering pullry due to corrosion. The joy of leaving a car outside in upstate new york. At least I don't have to deal with upstate winters any longer (just brooklyn potholes).

A quick update. I pulled up the carpeting and cleaned out all the water. I noticed that the carpet was most soaked in the center, the outside and in the front, but not near the center console. Also there is no water on the passenger's side as there usually is with the a/c drainage tube. I consulted with my mechanic and he thinks that the seal at the bottom of the windshield might be cracked and the water might be coming through the firewall.

At least you didn't leave the parking brake off on your Miata and have it roll into your neighbor's pool.

Oh man......you beat me to it. And now with the bad economy here even less is being done to the roads. Not good.

I proudly voluntear to be a driver for the testing, as an Ithaca commuter, well, actually, that is all I need to say. And if I feal up to a road trip, I can cross the boarder to parts of PA where any road that doesn't carry a state route # is dirt. Give me free cars to see how they hold up.
