So......im going to indy for the third time, i love the place, who doesnt? Last time i rented some headphones, which was awesome...has anyone here purchased their own and if so where did you get them? And how do you get them to tune in to the indy frequencies? The ones i rented were all set up, all i did was turn them on. Sorry if this has been covered....i cant do a search om my phone for some reason.
I have good headphones for my scanner, but I've never set up the scanner beforehand. I should do that. It would make the experience better. I think my setup was about $200 in 2006 or so. Not sure what it would cost now. That's about when I quit going to multiple treated per year.
I'm not sure where my wife got mine. But the headphones came with the scanner. RE brand, I think. Maybe bought at Radio Shack? Lol
Now that I don't go to make races, I should have not bought and just rented. Man, I need to go to more races. Maybe I'll do the 500 in a few weeks.

I bought a used scanner with two sets of headphones off of eBay a couple years ago for less than the cost of the rental fee at the Rolex. I've since used them twice down there, once to listen to Kenton County dispatch when they were chasing to guys through the woods around my house, and every time I cut the grass since it muffles the mower sound enough that I can listen to a podcast (just the headphones plugged into my phone, not the scanner itself). For another couple bucks, I bought some higher capacity cells and built a second battery that will last a bit longer.
For use at the racetrack, you can just go up to the Racing Electronics booth and for $5 they will sell you a list of channels. It's not always complete at the Rolex, but I don't know if they're more on top of it for IndyCar.
I can't comment on Indy as I have never been there, but for the IMSA races they are broadcast on the track's radio station. So at each race I tune my ipod to the track radio station and I can listen to IMSA Radio all day. At Mid-Ohio there were a few parts of the track where reception wasn't as good but it worked pretty well otherwise.
Nothing to add. But this will get the 500 excitement started (I’m fully aware Jim is gone).
Memorial Day weekend, the National Anthem, a flyover and being at the Indy 500 almost 20 times? Yeah, I’m tearing up a bit

I'll be there.......for the 29th year in a row!
Can't wait!
In reply to Joe Gearin :
Awesome - it’s a blast. I’d go but I’m leaving for California the next Thursday.
They should be posting the frequencies online here in the next couple days. Usually it's right about now.
The scanner is super cheap. I have one I use for corner working for $25 from amazon. It's the headphones that are the expensive part.
