Plus engine swaps. I know little about Hondas and even less about FWD engine swaps.

My brother in Montana calls me this morning about a 77 Civic he found. Rot free, leather, with a smoking dead 1.5. Killer is its $300.

Rather than find a 1.5, whats the best/cheapest engine or engine trans swap I could do with this? This could be a fun beater with minimal work. I smell a Challenge car.

Ideas?

B18b or b20... B18b is a bullet proof engine without Vtech so people sell them really cheap. Also they are low comp motors perfectly set up for turbo. Just make sure to avoid the LS trans and try to find a b16 manual (I think) as the gears are shorter and easier to climb thru.

Don't get too excited about the "leather" interior. It's no more natural than the "wood" on the dash.

I love that generation of Civic. Not sure about engines. I do know that I owned one as my first car, and that shortly after my purchase my school installed speed bumps in the school parking lot.

First off, if it has leather interior, it's probably been swapped as these cars didn't come with even that option.

The easiest and most popular swap for these cars is the 1st generation Accord/Prelude EK1 1800cc engine. Pretty much a straight bolt in. That's what I have in mine and it's been a daily driver for the last 5 years. I also have the 5 speed from a 1981 Civic. Fast this car is not, but with the 5 speed and 1.8L engine, it is quick.

I love mine and drive it every day that it doesn't rain.
