Inspired by the Dakar thread and the Fun/loud/cheap thread. What is out there that combines the Nastiness of the Kamaz truck with semi everyday functionality?
Kamaz
I Keep thinking old Unimog with modern diesel technology.

But seriously nothing that large will be daily driver able..
Besides why a KAMAZ? when DAF, SCANIA and other proper makes are out there... KAMAZ makes old tech vehicles. They throw themselves into the Dakar to drum up sales intersest in the rest of the world.
Proper 4x4's have 4 drive axles..

btw.. the unimog you show isn't really an old one.. That's a fiarly new U300 from the 80's-90's...
I really just dig the 4 biiiiig wheels, big front diff, wedge or flat front, bumper at head height, industrial/military look. The idea of being able to have one powerful enough and economical enough to haul a family or tow with just amuses me. So does anything exist about the size of an airport shuttle bus with more overall prowess and a much meaner look?
BTW-I really dig that red Volvo
I have seen the tiny unimogs for sale for under $3k, although not in anything near running condition.

I love those things, but DAMN is a nice one expensive.. Holy crap! See the classifieds at www.dodgepowerwagon.com
I always thought an early Dodge town wagon would be a good family hauler, with proper diesel engine of course..
One more silly thought..
since you already have the Disco.. Shouldn't you have an FC101...

I thought about this on my way to work looking at junk in peoples backyards. it may be the ultimate yard cart.
One Cushman truck:
Maxima v-6 and tranny turned sideways in bed, each output driving a Samurai axle hung from a monster truck style 4 link and coil over setup.
I bet it would be fun for the rest of you life, however short that may become.
