I have USAA, I believe that it is only an option for military people and their families however...

USAA. If you can get it, it's worth every penny. Family member's of service personnel can get it too and I've seen a couple of "Refer a Family/Friend" promo's from them over the last year or so.

I've had USAA since 1986 and I'll never leave. I laugh when Geico cold calls me. I actually had one of their sales people call me a liar when I told them what I was paying...

USAA is excellent, but for the chosen few. Allsnake is not well thought of in the industry. Progressive can't keep employees; we think of them as the training ground for us to steal people from them.

Insurance is an extremely competitive business. You really do have to shop around to find the best deal that fits you.

I'm with progressive... at least until the lawyer gets us our money from them. I added comp coverage when I saw one of these famous texas hail storms coming in, then had to make a claim and suddenly they said I added comp AFTER the storm and they won't cover it.

So, I sent NWS reports as well as an email from my local weather station that prove the damage happened after I called and I'm waiting for my check. I was with Mercury and had no trouble. I had also been with Horace Mann for several years and loved them, but they cater mostly to educators.

I have been with Farmers for a number of years. House and two vehicles. I have never had any problems with claims of increase in rates. One deer,Jeep. $4K damage. Windshield on ZX2, front bumper cover. One speeding ticket. Fender replacement on a Cavalier, don't ask. All were paid quickly without questions.

USAA is great, but they have never been able to give me a competitive rate, and I don't know why. They also refund some of your policy if you have no tickets or claims. I'm 37 and have a prefect driving record. They're rates were significantly higher than Geico. I've been using Geico since 1993, so maybe that helps. For what its worth, USAA didn't want to insure my home either. They had issues with the screened in porch supports not being adequately load bearing relative to the rest of the house. No kidding. They never saw the house, so I don't know what they were working off of. Screened in porch is still there, seems to be holding up OK I think they just don't like me.

I use Geico for auto only, liability only, on my battleaxe 84 Benz 300D. For my MGB GT, I use Hagerty.

Full coverage/lienholder type insurance is relatievely high no matter how old you are. Anymore, new cars are totalled out with so much as a fender bender. It keeps me away from financing or leasing a car on a long term basis more than the interest or money factor on the car does. that and personal property taxes.

My local American Family rep, or more accurately, the ladies that work for him, are a breeze to work with. They see me twice a year and remember everything about me when I walk through the door, truely amazing. Great prices too.
