Saw this on a local forum. Think he'll fit in well here if he's not already here. Real grassroots build and great performance. Ugly but gets the job done. interesting car

Toward the end of the video, he says he has $13k in parts in the build???
I think he would benefit from spending some time here.
For me, the (intentional and laudable) ugliness of that car only underscores the really nice lines of the FB RX7. I think I need me one o' them, with similar American muscular motivation.
Lost me at the external speedo.
The whole working really hard to look like you're not giving a berkeley isn't my bag.
Hah, I just got done watching that and was about to post it here. I like it. Mostly because it's clear he's following no trend, trying to impress no one, and solely built the car for himself. And in that end, he's possibly one of the best builders on earth. Too many people capitulate to trends, this kid didn't.
I'll take and RX with a 5.0. In fact I may throw one in the old 240 chassis as soon as its replaced.

I'd call that build in league with the rusted-roof VWs and BMWs.

Yup. I'm not one that needs the deepest gloss on my paint or the newest cool wheels but that's just dumb. It is apparent that he is trying very, very hard to "be cool" and he failed. Didn't someone say he had something like $12K on that? If he has that much money in it and it still looks like that he failed hard. Look at many challenge entries. They have an honest few grand in them and look good.

The exact opposite of what I think. He's no different than the guys who spend tons of money trying to replicate the rat rod trend. At least it performs though.

+1 It's following many trends, just doing it on a different vehicle. I've got nothing against a rat, when it's an honest rat. That one is trying to hard to be a rat.
Hell yes we need that guy on here!
The only part that looks like it's "trying too hard to give no berkeleys" is the duct-taped on speedo...we know you have to change that duct tape every few weeks, bolt it on.

This, this, 1000x this.
this makes stance look decent.
I am all for modding a car.. but to make it look worse because I can... does not compute.
BTW.. the external speedo WAS bolted to the hood with a tech screw.. the duct tape was probably just added for "effect"
I love it. It's perfect. Seems like a cool kid too. Yeah, it's not what I'd build. I'm 45 years old. If I could have built that when I was 20 you bet your ass I would have and I'd be out having as much fun as I'm sure he is. When I was 20, I remember being excited because I could change the cap and rotor by myself! What he's done is fantastic. Does it have a silly haircut? Of course. Did you have a silly hair cut when you were 20?
You don't like it? I'm pretty sure he doesn't care.
I think it's berkeleying awesome. The only things he spent money on are go-fast parts, and parts that make sure it doesn't implode while going fast.
13K is a lot though. I'm going to read his build thread and see where it actually went. Everyone involved in the filming certainly seems to think it's stupidly fast, which is the point, so that's a win.
