You didn't see actual positive boost pressure in first gear with that setup? What a marvelous improvement over stock...
And I'm repeating my "that trans is not as strong as you think" statement again. The F2T screams for a rear wheel drive installation backed by something like the RX7 TII transmission.

I did it on purpose.... i CAN see positive pressure (the full amount for that matter) if i actually run through the gear instead of short shifting like i said i did. I shifted at about 3500rpms. I'm trying to be easy on the car because of your warnings about the transmission, and because it's my DD. I was just running for fun, see what it would trap.
1st gear is pretty useless in this car. 2nd gear is bordering on useless. I don't get full traction til 3rd gear.

I heard something or other about him recently.... we can easily threadjack this into that.
Regardless if the car has MS or not, i'll be ditching to go to an FCON setup. Relatively cheap, easier to deal with for my technically challenged brain, and HKS means it's better, right?
Paul_VR6 wrote: Taking the MS off to go to an FCON?
If it has it... i didn't get a chance to check yesterday, yes.
No matter how much reading i do, i can't seem to get a handle on MS. The FCON is a much simpler setup it seems, and more than adequate for what i want to do with the car. MS scares the E36 M3 out of me.
I can piece together the FCON setup for about $600, including the actual FCON, FCD, ROM, harness, and GCC.
I would have just installed my EPROM chip, but i don't like the fact that there's no data that shows exactly what the timing advance on there is, and i woudln't trust it above 15psi.
The stock timing map is fine for more boost than i'll ever run, so with the FCON, i can get rid of the boost cut, and control my fuel well enough to not worry about it.
For my DD, simpler + easy = better.
For the Celica, i'll go with something a bit more involved, since i can afford extended intervals of downtime on that car.

If it's there, sure. I'll know today or tomorrow.
SOMETHING has to be making it run as well as it does, and not hit boost cut.

It's magic.
Wait, so you are talking about pulling MS from a functioning vehicle because you don't understand it?

Yeah that sounds really screwy to me too.
Well the fact that he didn't know that it might be there should have been the first clue.
Honestly folks, read the megamanual over and over until you begin to understand it.
Guys, i'm not even positive that it has it yet. I haven't had a chance to rip into it. It just adds up to why the car runs like it does. It should NOT idle and run as smooth as it does with the injectors in it. It should NOT run 18psi without cutting out like crazy. It SHOULD be blowing huge clouds of black smoke from running rich.
I don't understand Megasquirt. In the slightest.
If i was told that it had Megasquirt on it when i went to go look at it, i wouldn't have bought it. I don't want a Megasquirted daily driver. I can deal with the FCON if that's what ends up happening. It's dumbed down enough that i can understand it, and the install is stupidly easy. 10 minutes.
It's a preference/comfort level thing. For instance, at the moment, i'm idly searching for a new turbo, because i'm not sure how i feel about running a 20 year old turbo. If it's got megasquirt, and i change the turbo (want slightly bigger to get a little more lag/driveability out of it), i will have no idea whatsoever how to re-tune the car to run properly.
I've been looking at the FCON anyways. So if it turns out that MS IS there, then there is no change in plans.
But there has to be SOME reason why the car behaves as it does.
Yes but if it has MS that means that the current harness could have been converted to run on MS which means what ever this FCON thing is, you won't be dealing with a stock computer system anymore.
Think about it like this, if it has MS and it runs great, and you want to change something, take the money you would blow on the FCON and spend it at a proper dyno shop that can use MS and they can set it up far better than you could ever do with the fcon for way less money and no hassle to you.
Removing a fully functioning MS for a car that works great is just mind boggling.

You know, like being stock...
I'm still convinced it's a near-stock, dog-slow MX6. I mean you think a V6 Camry is a "Muscle Car" so...
Let's see that timeslip BTW, cause I ain't buying that time/trap speed.
Where you located I tune 2-3 MS cars a month, and can even help tune over email. It's really not rocket science, especially when you consider how much extra work it well take to get those funky ass fuel controllers to work right.
Imagine this...and to most of us, this is how you sound:
Fictional character said: I can't even begin to understand adjustable dampers. I think that the used car that I just bought has four double adjustable Koni dampers on it. It handles great despite having very stiff springs, it handles way better than it should. I am going to take a look at the suspension when I get home to see if they are actually Konis, since the previous owner never actually told me that it has Konis on it. If it does have Konis, I'm going to put some KYB GR-2s on it because I can understand those. Even though I won't be able to adjust them like the Konis, I can't screw them up if I want to change the spring rate. Sure...if it does have Konis, that means the front knuckles have been modified to accept the new dampers and I'll have to go find other knuckles, and it currently handles well, and it will accomodate any change that I want to make to the suspension, but if I adjust them wrong the car won't handle like it should.
I just wanted to be in page one of the "why the hell does this thread exist" thread.

Okay, before this turns into the aluminum monocouque thread, let's focus on your misconceptions and preconceived notions about megasquirt and it's complexity.
The majority of the complexity is in the installation, which is already potentially taken care of. What is left? Tuning? Seems like it is taken of as well. After that you just need to shut up and drive the car. Just like with an oem efi system.
I won't even touch the turbo comment since most of my cars have run turbos around that age and just like an engine, as long as they are taken care of they will last tens of thousands of miles.

Come out and check it out. It's running 18psi. Stock won't do that.
I've posted pictures of the car.
Go be sour somewhere else. I'm sorry it's not an RX7. Get over it.
