Not only does it run better with the distributor set correctly, but I sent  it to the shop for some new rubber and had the AC checked at the same time. They replaced a Shrader valve and topped off the system and it has functioning AC.

You gonna be at Sebring on Saturday?

I won't be.  My Corolla won't be track ready for a little bit yet.  But I do plan to take my e36 to the firm on Sunday.

Aahh. I see now there's a champ race at Sebring this weekend.  I haven't run in Champ for a few years now.  My current endurance team prefers the Lemons events and I do too.

Are you going to gut your car? Add at least a roll bar?

I haven't forgotten about this, but it's probably going to be next year at the soonest.

It's nice seeing these things get some love. They're basically the only economy car of that age you still see up here in the rust belt mainly because they were built locally in Cambridge so they sold a pile of them in the region.

I think most cfr Rallycross events will be under consideration and someone from the group was suggesting a Daytona autox coming up soon.  But I have not put together anything official.   I'll try to collaborate with the gang and pick out a first event soon.

I plan to leave my car full interior. I like the idea that this thing can still cruise around on the street pretty comfortably.   Britt has a roll bar template from when he built the Lemons cage, so I might add a roll bar someday.  But it's really not a high priority (for me) at autox/rallyx speeds.

I've got the cockpit mostly sorted.  Getting the driver seat low is a pain because there's a ridge in the unibody where the factory seat mounts. Had to do a bit of chopping and welding.  The steering column lowers pretty easily with some spacers.  I want to add some threads on the shifter to get the knob a bit lower.

You know you fools have a 71 year old man, who ought to know better, browsing FB Marketplace for an old Corolla?

Too old by about twenty years.

Yeah, and this 67 year old is doing the same thing. Makes even less sense since it's going to be months before I can get one, no matter how cheap.

So I have been chewing on getting a prius for a cheap daily for my commute from the country into town everyday for work....

But maybe. I need a corolla for that instead and it can double as a corolla cup car. HMMM

Did you lower the seat for CG or helmet room?

Mostly because I "feel" more comfortable being low in a car I'm driving in anger.  I had plenty of helmet clearance in the stock seat.  I suppose the lower CG is a nice benefit to go with my comfort.  I know Corbeau makes a race seat mounting bracket that uses the stock mounting points, but I'm pretty sure ojannen is not going to fit using that bracket.  You'll likely be cutting the unibody hump.

I like this whole spec car concept, but up here in Rustlandia finding old usable Corollas isn't easy, especially if you want a manual transmission. However, if you look at the power to weight ratio of the Corolla  it's very nearly the same as the 2006-2011 Kia Rio and Hyundai Accent twins, for example. The concept can be implemented anywhere just by finding whatever vehicles are cheap and available locally.

I would think it would be cheaper to drive 500-1000mi for a cheap Corolla than to buy anything locally.

On Central Florida facebook, you can get a Geo/Chevrolet Prizm with a manual for $2000 all day.  The manual Corollas start at $3-4K.  We are mostly looking at Prizms for that reason.  There are even a few 2001s that might end up under $3K.

It sold for a mint! Okay, not really. It was in the employee/media parking lot.

But I saw it and thought of everyone here.
