Has anyone written an engine management program that can be run off of a smart phone? The processing power is there, it's got a screen for tuning options, and there's an abundance of older iPhone/Android devices out there from people upgrading.

Benefits would be wireless updates, automatic backup for tunes and run history, and a relatively small size.

Anyway, just throwing it out there. If it hasn't been done, I think it should. Anything like this out there in the wild?

There are a few interfaces but no actual controller. Your phone will lack the high power drivers and input circuits for.. nearly anything.

Also certain low-latency / high-frequency IO ports...for a trigger wheel for example.

A smartphone could replace the CPU and tuning interface of an ECU/EMS, but there's a lot more to them than that.

Well that's a shame

The smart phone could still be used for backups, updates, and the like on a separate ECU.
