Considering a purchase but really dislike the hill assist "feature" on the manuals. I have read conflicting information on other forums about whether it can or can not be disabled by vw techs with access to computer inputs. Are there any techs that can confirm this one way or another?
thanks!
Are you referring to a "Hill Holder" sort of thing ?
On my 2011 Golf TDI, I could disable it with the VAGCOM cable and RossTech software. Not sure about the new ones.

have you driven one with it? it's not very noticeable and only works for a split second. If you are worried about electronic nannies the electro e-brake is worse imo. If the hill assist uses the ABS system, that system is always running and always ready to help so it's not like it's going to wear something out.
I have a 2012 Jetta 6 sp and I barely notice it and I've been driving stick since the early 70's!

Can you disable the requirement of pressing the brake to crank the engine?
2015, DSG, TDI, Golf.

I did drive it. It was more that it's unnecessary. I know how to start on a hill. In fact, sometimes I WANT to roll back a little. Maybe it's to get off a pedestrian crossing that I was on to see past a bush or something. Sometimes it's just to say "hey idiot! Get off my bumper!" Point is I know how to do it so it's another solution to a non problem.
Being a VW I'm sure it will stop working soon enough on it's own.
In reply to Wally :
I'm hoping that's not the case. I'm certainly not buying it for its thrills!
I understand that some of you feel it is fine to have and I appreciate your choice there. To each his/ her own on what makes them happy. But my question was really only if it can be turned off. I just don't happen to want it.

Yes, it's just a matter of changing the apropriate bit in the coding with vagcom/carista/obdeleven.

The hill assist on the old '88 Subaru wagon would hold if the clutch stayed on the floor. As soon as the clutch started moving the 'assist' was released. It was easy enough to pop the clutch slightly just to allow the car to roll back.
When does the VW release the brakes?

It's probably more noticable the worse you are at driving in the first place. I get OP's point. If i owned one i may want to disable it too.
Mine disengaged after a couple of seconds if i released the brake and it was active. My Audi does this too.

only reason I asked is my '15 wagen has the hill assist and if I didn't know it was there I don't think I'd notice is was doing anything.

Love that feature on my ‘11 GTI with M/T. It works better than the similar system on the Forester with M/T that came before the GTI, but that one worked ok also.
