I loved the idea but freezing to death on the side of the road outside Buffalo isn't my wife's idea of fun.

Entry fee is a bit steep but I hope I catch them when they roll through town.

So the cost of the car is roughly the same as the cost of entry?

BTW, it's interesting to see the car they used as a sample rally car- I bought a version of that back in 1997 for $5,000 that needed to be restored. The one you see there would clear $20k easy. At leas they should put up something that would actually be an Lemons car.

Ok I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. Am I on mute? This is not a price capped event. They are not $500 cars. They are not intended to be.

In reply to dculberson:

Didn't read that- LeMons has to deal with the fact that they have a LONG reputation. To me, it's safe to assume that anything associated with them is for crappy, cheap cars. Heck, I don't think I would want my nice Alfa at a Lemons event. A POS one, sure. But not a nice one.

If that's not what the intention is, IMHO, it should not be called or labeled as Lemons.

Either way, my opinion is moot- I'm not the customer they are trying to get anyway.

yea that seems like a lot of money to go drive on public roads with a bunch of other people with the only benifit of the the entry fee being that you get/loss points, which is really the only thing that makes it a competition. if it were $100-200 i would be more interested. dont get me wrong it sounds like a lot of fun, but not $425 worth of fun, and that's before hotel, fuel, food, and fixing potential break downs.

Their concours d'lemons is similarly not a "$500 car" event. They've been putting that on for years with success. The rally last year was well attended. It's intended for "weirdo" cars, but open to all. It seems to me that there's no problem with branding if they've got plenty of attendees.

The cheap/crappy/weird cars get points toward the total at the end, that's where the "Lemons" part comes in, but they also want to allow people who want to participate in nicer cars too. The nice car people just won't win anything as they are not really in the spirit of the event.

We were trying to bring on of our Lemons race cars on the rally, and then race the same car at the Barber race at the rally end, but couldn't get our E36 M3 together in time to do so. We would have brought a nicer car along as well (Suburban) on the rally to bring race gear and to be able to tow the race car home if it broke.

If you are on the book of Faces there is a group called Obscure Cars For Sale, they post a fleet of cars that could fit the bill every day.
