A Buick Reatta could be an awesome project car?
I guess so...
Only If the project was to move the engine to the rear. And the asking price was one fourth of the price in that ad. Supposedly they were hand built, with much better than usual GM build quality.
College student and he says......"well tookin care of". Guess he must have skipped English class a few times.
There is one of these that has been parked in front of the same nice house a couple blocks from where I grew up for as long as I can remember, most likely owned by the same person since new. I see it around town here and there as well, so it's clearly a frequent driver. It appears to be in phenomenal condition. It is probably the only Reatta I have seen in person for 20 years. I really don't know what to think about all that.
I ASSume these are based off the same midsize GM platform as everything else? And manuals were available in the Grand Am(maybe even Grand Prix?), so parts-bin swapping should be available? Obviously a 3800SC can make decent power and drops right in. And since I'm too lazy to google curb-weights I'll make a guess that being a smaller car than the 2-door Grand Prix, this might actually be lighter? Since it's a popular chassis that was in production for a very long time, there are probably suspension options available for it??? And I bet you could stuff some wide meats into those open(appearing, anyway) wheel wells.
So, I'm waiting... When are one of you guys going to try this out and report back???
Well, Ok. You may still have a turd when you're done, but it would be a nice shiny turd.
I seem to recall that they had horrid torque steer. Built to compete with a 450SL, and better looking, IMHO. Could be a lot of fun to play with. Saw one last week at the corner gas station.
