So that I have one as a spare when I need to do work on the the other? Also, I've kinda made the one I have into a race car so it's not as comfortable to drive on the street anymore. Also, I pretty much know exactly what to do with a Miata these days to repair anything (as well as what is not worth repairing).
There are so many cheap Miatas lurking out there.
The Miata is just at that perfect point of affordable with good capability while being inexpensive to maintain.
Then there is the bonus of having more than one of a specific car, the ability to swap parts between them for diagnosis, horde parts, and everything else.
i have yet to buy my first, someday....someday.....
Yes, I also have a hoard of Miata parts for fixing and tweaking leftover from all my current Miata adventures.
I need more garage space.

Wouldn't it be sweet if there was a hatchback, truck or wagon of some sort that utilized the same subframe mounting points at the Miata but a different engine or maybe wasn't rwd? Where it was as simple as installing the Miata drivetrain into this other vehicle.
Until you said cheap.......
I was going to suggest you take my '06 Grand Touring with the Sport Package off my hands. Only 43k miles!

Nope. It's what I was doing until I sold the race car. And now I'm looking for another one.

I don't think I will ever pay more than $5k for a Miata.

That's too bad, well until the NCs get that cheap.
Great cars!
It just won't tow the NA Miata to the track.
Not that the newer ones aren't good, but for a non-daily driver the $5k Miatas are just as good IMO.
Problem is of course that we have four cars already, so five would be a bit much.
I used to have two R package cars... One for Track, one for commuting. I'm down to one at the moment.
Coming here and asking if you have a Miata problem is like going to the corner bar and asking if it's okay to have another drink!
Head over to one of those Honda forums... There you'll find some people to tell you what you need is... OTM

I don't have a problem, denial is just a river in Egypt.

Please tell me you didn't type that with a straight face...
buy a MR2, then you have both worthwhile light rwd cars.
It's a little wrong.
Unless one of them is ranging towards un-streetable.
Then again, I like my mildly modified miata, but have zero plans on ever buying another... it's been checked off the automotive bucket list.
Hell, if it were to die/be killed, I'd probably not go miata for a replacement.
Kinda like a movie that is good to see once, but gives no desire for a second viewing
(Dazed and Confused, for example)
I am at this very moment in the back of my tool truck looking out the door at an $800 Miata. Its sitting behind a stereo/tint shop and it was traded for some abomination of a Civic they built to win some competition. I'm here to get my cab windows tinted, and have no money/space/time for another Miata.
And yet....
As someone living in overpriced Miata land, there are no sub-$3000 Miatas of any stripe. Most of them are rust, even some of the octogenarian garage/RV queens for $5-8k. I look at the southern US and cry myself to sleep.
Therefore: my advice is to Always Hoard Miatas.
If you start to run out of room you can start converting them to Exocets in order to save some space.

Up until a month ago, I had 3 clogging up my driveway.
Parting with the $400 one was very difficult, it had "exocet donor" written all over it. The BEGI turbo kit for my remaining miata eased the sting a bit though
