OK I keep hearing that Jeep is going to make some sort of small truck for 2015 on the Jeep chassis. Is this fantasy or is this something that is actually in the pipe.

Look how long it took them to embrace a 4 door Wrangler. I would now guess that it makes up 75% of the Wranglers sold.
You can get the current 4 door Wrangler as a "truck" via a dealer installed really expensive kit.
Everything I've read that had an air of plausible "knowing what they're talking about," to it says that the Wrangler based truck (Scrambler?) won't be available until the 2016/17 new Wrangler release. I'm mostly excited about this possibility plus the alleged turbo diesel option available on the upcoming Wrangler.
A factory Wrangler pick-up could cost Jeep even less to make than the standard Wrangler. Dakota is dead; I can't fathom why they Sergio brought the weaksauce 500L to market here over a Jeep pickup.
Looks like Fiat is selling about 1,100 500L's here a month. The 500L is doing well in Europe though with nearly 9,000 sold a month.

that is true. But with no dakota anymore they need a jeep branded truck. I wish they would just make the Mighty FC concept a real vehicle.

Damn that's just a re branded h3t.
I found this picture before I posted this up. That's what got my hopes up. A capable, small truck with 4wd and moderate fuel consumption is just the ticket for me, and easy to park as well. Plus who does not like a Jeep.

Actually, it's about 68%, but close enough. And therein lies the rub...
The only facility that would make economic sense to build a Wrangler-based pickup would be the existing Wrangler facility in Toledo, which was designed with that idea in mind.
Problem is, original projections when the line was built was a "best-case-scenario" of 135,000 vehicles per year, with MAYBE 25% of those being 4-doors.
For the '15 model-year, that facility is projected for around 275,000 vehicles. And demand still outpaces production capacity.
Fiatsler WANTS to build the Jeep pickup, it's just not feasible right now.
Things may change with the next Wrangler, as there are ongoing discussions on how to bump Toledo Wrangler producton to 400k+ per year.
I have the same problem with the pictured jeep beds as i do with modern 4x4 1ton truck beds: a loading height approximately as tall as me.
I've always said the only reason you see big trucks towing small trailers is because the owner wanted to load something that he couldnt lift 5ft into the air.
I like the idea of a jeep pickup but i honestly dont think the Wrangler is a good fit. I think a Renegade-based truck is more interesting to me.
