So I have been looking to treat myself: A little Brainerd International Raceway performance driving school may be in order. I was looking at the Spec racer sessions... cool! But I don't think my skill is there yet, They have track days with your own car for $310, problem is I have a stock Mazda 2 (25k, in great shape) with Direzza's as the only modification... I know the car has no power but is a hoot to drive (I have done 2 autocrosses and one autocross school with instructors) but is it too slow for B.I.R, or to have fun?
I am looking at the 2 sessions with a spec racer and "all day" with my 2 package for $890
I know it is fun to drive a slow car fast but is my car too slow, I do not want to be an "moving chicane"?
Advice?
If its your first track day you wont be a rolling chicane because there will not be any passing allowed in your group. Just point by anybody that catches you in the passing zones.
Your car isnt too slow. My wife and I have both taken our stock 117 hp Civic to track days. There are usually several econoboxes attending.
Sign up and have a blast.

BIR isn't a super fast course, you'll be fine. Especially if it's your first time out, its probably a good idea to drive a momentum car.
I will assume that similar to autocross; it's easier to learn on a slow car because you won't be able to upset the chassis by applying too much power.
No, the car is faster than you are as a novice. Go and enjoy yourself.

To answer the question, "is my car too slow for a track day". Of course it is, not really the car but probably you are. Don't worry though you wont get better without participating and then when you are totally hooked you will NEVER have a car that is fast enough. Have fun.
Thanks guys and gals! I am looking forward to a "weekend" filled with fun, brake pads and fun!
Now to plan for turn one:)
That's like asking if you're too weak for a Powerlifting meet or a Highland Games. If you have that mindset you'll never be strong (or fast) enough.
You just show up and do what you can and pick the brains (or keep quiet and observe) of the more seasoned guys.

This. Enjoy yourself, listen to the instructors! learn from them! and don't worry about what the other guys think. One day you'll be passing much more powerful and faster cars; you'll have this type experience to thank for that!
I LOVE passing Porsches and Camaros and Vettes in my wifes mazda 6 4 banger. It is VERY satifying to drive a slow car quickly around a racetrack!
You will quickly learn that the driver makes a HUGE difference!
