I get a much bigger workout at the local karting place than I do at the road course. Holding on, leaning into the turns. Bracing myself for 16 minutes and I'm hurting when I get out of the kart. And I'm 25 and in pretty good shape.
I raced 3 14 lap indoor kart races Sunday, did 3 more races Monday and I'm still sore today. Karts are a bigger workout than crapcan racing.
I was sore for a week after going karting for the first time in real karts on real tires. 3 - 15 minute sessions.

Not a chance. You shouldn't be "working out" on sunday anyway. Racing shouldn't be stressful on the body, all the prep work (cardio, strength, etc) should be done ahead of time so that all you are doing at the race is racing. If you are looking to get into better shape I would think a brisk walk 5 days a week would be better.

race without power steering
+1, on real, fat slicks in a short wheelbase trailing arm car with wonky oversteer issues. I tore a tendon in my left arm in the carousel at mid-ohio before I finally added PS back in.
Doing this for a few hours on Sunday will give you a workout. All dirt/mud and no power steering.
