Surprised you felt the GTS was slow.  My wife and I test drove the newer SQ5 with the turbo motor and it felt plenty quick.  Not the same as my old stage 2 3 liter supercharged S4, but that's not a fair comparison.

It honestly might have been this particular car, it is used and I have no idea how healthy the motor is. It ran great and didn't appear to have anything wrong, and it did have some decent mid range pull, it lacked in torque noticeably.

I drive supercharged cars and electric motor equipped stuff all day though, so my butt meter calibration is probably skewed.

Macan is based on the MQB platform, same as the Golf.  IE, chassis are the same, despite different motors and transverse vs longitudinal etc.

Macan (and cayenne) are MLB platform. Same "concept" as the MQB but different layout and virtually no shared parts. If you go look at some parts diagrams the two are nothing alike. Macan/cayenne are double wishbone front suspension where the golf is strut is the first glaring difference.

And to further muddy it, MLB is a concept, not a single platform. So the Cayenne and Macan only share firewalls and drivetrain locations. The Macan's MLB is very much still a modified 2007 Audi B8, including the uprights. Think of the B8 A4 as a Fox Fairmont, and the Macan as an 04 Mustang GT and you're on the right track.

Yeah that's what I meant by "concept"; MQB is the same thing. Basically the firewall, windshield frame, drivetrain locations, and front/rear subframes and basic suspension components are common, and that's it.

I went and drove macans. I wasn't that impressed given how much premium they commanded. Particularly if you care about the S. I drove all the usual suspects. I liked the bmw x3 m40i the best overall. You'll get a very peppy well handling suv with better equipment and much lower price. The b58 is super easy to tune as well. Granted the PDK is a little better and the handling is a little better. Just not worth the extra cost IMO.
