I hate that Mazda chose to make its awd gearbox out of popsicle sticks and sheet glass. Not the kind of glass on a celphone screen oh dear me no, the kind of glass they make light bulbs with. Enablers. They make an engine that can take ludicrous amounts of boost that goes into any number of willing and nimble chassis, but make you put the torque through this enormous failboat.

That's still so much fun to drive I will never ever willingly part with it..

It's maddening.

Same here on the '11 Frontier........biggest one is if you drop the hammer to pass someone............once you let off it hangs and hangs and hangs and you usually have to give another touch of throttle to get it to upshift.

And it's always trying to get upshift to quickly even when accelerating briskly.

Wonder if there is an aftermarket solution.

Doesn't run, and it appears to be little E36 M3 that is slightly beyond my ken that's keeping it from doing so.

Needs a battery, but that's because someone sold their truck with my battery in it.

Other than that, the tailgate doesn't stay latched, so anything over the weight of a feather causes it to slam down loudly. And I noticed the sunvisor is stuck out far enough on it's little peg that it blocks part of the rear veiw mirror.

CSX:

I hate this:

The other side is like that too, as well as part of the spare tire well and the outer rockers. If I ever get around to welding that stuff in, I'll be very happy with it.

Trans Am:

I hate that it's constantly finding new and creative ways to break, no matter how much money or time I throw at it.

Mazda3:

I wish it had more power sometimes, but I can't really complain. It's been a great car so far. Best new car purchase I've had yet.

VR6 runs so hot in Corrados that if you have a thunderstorm on a warm day (A/C is dead in the black one, and intermittent in the green one), you'll bake in there with the windows up. And the car seems to be aerodynamically designed to flow the rain into your eyes with the window down far enough to cool off.

Oh, and power windows & power seat belts. Every time that belt starts moving, all I can think of is that line in Goldfinger: "..I expect you to die, Mr. Bond!" Disabled them in the black one, that was one of the power drains. The central locking is the other.

I hate that in my e46 the radio knob will only control the volume if you move it verrry slowly. If you get carried away and twist it quickly you'll make it angry and the volume goes crazy going from silent to extremely loud rapidly. The fix seems to be another BMW head unit which is hundreds of dollars, which of course I can't justify.

Almost 80k miles in 5 years, almost everything has been consumables: 1 set of tires, 1 set of front brake pads, going to need rotors turned or replaced soon. Only work done so far: I did a tune up at 60k miles and coolant flush, I broke one liftgate handle (plastic) that you can fix in 10 minutes with a screwdriver and a socket and the part is like $10 and I have a minor squeel from the belt when its wet or damp but goes away when dry or warm, so I probably need to replace that, they're boring vehicles

Only problem areas I've heard of (but not experienced, yet) is the cam sensor 'squeek' on earlier 3.0L motors but it gives you fair warning and plenty of time to fix, and the shocks, ball joints, and bushings like to go around 100k on the clock, less in harsher climates...

If it helps, I'm toying with making a flatbed out of it.

We have an '08 Accord that has terrible seats. I always wonder: "Who's rear end did they measure when they designed this?"

Our '69 MGB is stock and has the giant, in-your-chest "~banjo steering wheel~". It looks sort of neat, but it's terrible to use.

I wish our '09 Chevy Express cargo (tow) van had electric window lifts.

It's posts like that that make me love this website. I <3 GRM

Happy to entertain, I get a bit loopy at night.

I should expound upon "intergalactic interface", as it's a good story.

I work in a screw machine shop, primarily computerized swiss and turret CNC machines, a few older manual lathes, Bridgeports, and CNC milling centers. The owner has run the place since '77, and while he's a brutally successful cutthroat businessman, he knows positively nothing of the process between selling a part order and shipping the finished product. One day a few years back, he came out on the floor in abject rage that one of the big Tsugami turret machines wasn't running. When asked as to why, my straight-faced boss flatly responded, without missing a beat, "the intergalactic interface is shot, parts are coming overnight from Japan." The owner got the usual deer-in-headlights look, and had little to say but "Oh. Uh, right. Well, get it up ASAP." Awesome.

We also played a game with the resident crack baby(confirmed, and it shows), who was just about never where he belonged, preferring to talk the ears off employees in other departments on the clock. Wait until he leaves to jabber, stop operation of one of his machines. Time how long it takes him to notice(the record is mine, at 2hrs 7min). He asked me why his machines keep axing themselves at least once a week, I told him it was probably just a short in the flux capacitor, and that it was all in the operations manual. "Oh F that, I ain't readin'!" So he submitted a repair request form to the maintenance department, citing "fluss capisitar freid"!

This is honestly the stupidest place I've ever worked, but we've had some fun.

My previous Colorado/Canyon didn't have a lock on the outside of the passenger door. If you wanted to get into the passenger side, you had to go in the driver's side and unlock the door from inside. It DROVE ME NUTS. It did have a locking tailgate, which I used once. When I was looking at new ones in the showroom, I pointed it out to the salesman, and told him how much I hated that. When my new one arrived, it had a lock in the door, and none in the tailgate, so at some point during the model year they made a change.

We have a loaded Cobalt, and we're very happy with it. Only complaint? The car has every available option for 06, but no map lights, and a dome light with a cheap switch that belongs in a 70's Vega.

2011 F250 (state owned work truck) the 6 speed auto is always in the wrong gear for what I want to be doing, usually to high a gear and if you punch it the trans just sits and thinks about what gear it should have been in all along. It still onlt gets 14mpg despite all the gear tom foolery.

1990 Geo Prizm- no tilt wheel, no intermitant wipers and no power to speak of, but it is soooo reliable and it gets decent enough mileagle evn with me trying to ring every last pitiful horse-power out of it evrywhere I drive.

1989 Civic Si- it's caged and therefore not driven much at all off track. But it is so much fun that I miss driving a fun car everyday.

1984 VW Rabbit, it hasn't run in two years?, three years?, a long time and as much as I love yard art I would like it to run again.

1967 Bug, it's a long term project that deserves my attention and I don't have the coin to treat it right. Hibernates in my garage mocking my lack of financial backing.

1977 VW Rabbit- BASKET CASE TERMINAL RUST... probably hopeless but it makes good yard art.

1997 Cavalier- (SWMBO's car) It's a CAVALIER! Totally uninspiring autotragic that must last her a few more years.

1986 GMC G20 Van- it's big and it's fun to scare smaller road dwellers with, but it has terminal rust and a questionable transmission.

Seriously. Earlier RX-7s have sort of a classy vintage Ferrari feel to the dash, then boom, two years of crap.

That's alternator whine, easily fixed with a power line filter on the radio.

On my turbo Sentra, it's the lack of NVH control. Hard urethane engine mounts, solid washers on the subframe, pretty much wide open exhaust, and very stiff, short springs all conspire to make the ride rather uncivilized. However, every time 7 psi appears on the boost gauge and the fenceposts blur, I forget about that.
