I found THIS on my local Craigslist, but I don't know much about newer Subarus. Is this a good deal to put back together and have a decent car? What I really want to do is sell whats left of the body and interior and hide it under a BRAT, but let's assume I'm asking about the first option.

Seems like you could remove drivetrain and sell the shell to earn back some the money.

Maybe $1,500 cash will get it?

That will nickle and dime you to death. It's a Factory Five donor.

If it's a full wrx drivetrain that's a good deal. Something seems not right about it, but I guess the seller could be a really weird guy and not a thief.

This, salvage the drivetrain and scrap the body, a WRX-I-fied BRAT sounds really good to me!

From what I hear, this:

Seller said: an aftermarket BOV!!

...is NOT a good sign for the engine.

Looks like the beginning of a great Challenge Car. Maybe a good deal but your lack of Subie knowledge may come back to haunt you unless part of your car love is the love of research and learning on forums. I tend to enjoy the engineering and build side of car stuff as much as the actual using the car to drive and compete.

Up to you but go into it thinking that nothing on it will work properly. Then you will be in the right frame of mind when you find out the rear suspension springs are different side to side, or that the reason the headlight highbeams don't work is because someone melted the harness then ran jumper wires to get the headlights working again.

I second the Factory Five donor car thing if you don't want to make a challenge car out of it.

It's amusing to me the 'Featured Readers' Ride' as I'm reading this post is a Brat. I'd take that as a sign.

That said, the whole ad reeks of fishiness, but it might be cheap enough to be worth the risk.

between that and the one i've been offered i could have one good car. looks like something i'd do, provided i could test drive it first and know the head gaskets and the rest of the mechanicals are good.

if you can score it for 1500 or less and do not want to take it on as a project i'd be willing to make it well worth your while to check it out/buy/sit on it for a little while on my behalf as long as all it really needs is the body stuff put on and some wheels/seats.

I like this as an 818 donor first, then a challenge car.
