Kinda looks like Kents old Locost? Or am i seeing things? It could be cool either way with a little work.
That is all.....

says $25000 invested - not sure how much of that couldve been recouped for challenge requirements...sure is cool though.
One thing to mention with regards to diamond plate:
"we were so busy trying to figure out if we could, nobody was asking if we SHOULD..."
Very cool except for this quote from the ebay ad, I can see that number if the builder counted tubing benders, welder, lathe, hand tools and garage heat into the budget.

NO way you build that for challenge money, but 5k seems pretty damn reasonable if it's half of what it looks to be.
Maybe that is what became of the Bull Run Evo.

ah, i hear the voice of someone who's never been to the challenge.
I like the concept. As far as execution: for $25k I'd expect a much more nicely finished final product. BTW, what is that thing which looks like a hydraulic jack sitting up on the right rear corner?
It wouldnt be the first ebay add that was fluffed up a little. Found a pic of the car I was thinking of....I think its the same car boys, Discuss.....
Pretty damn cool...if it was local and I could actually look at it before buying it I might be willing to drop $5K on that!

I think you're on to something there.
different roll bars, different lights front and back, the ebay car looks longer, Strut mounts look thinner in the challenge car, and the engine in the ebay car appears to be sitting down lower. Im gonna say no
The Mongrels' BMW 2002 went for something like $6k didn't it?
You can build it for under $2k, nothing says some fool out there won't pay more.
Dan
Same bar, just with two hoops added to get it above the helmet. Same seat and belts (Gray Simpson) Couple added bars to the chassis.... Look at the front and rear suspensions... The diamond plate behind the driver seat makes the motor look lower in the chassis, but I don't think it is. My guess is some one has done some "Development Work" but its the same car..
Besides....
Looks like twins....... lol
Little back story on the car is here.... 2005 Challenge Locost
This caught my eye. Not the pretty seats, but the motorcycle in the backgtound.
One license plate, one fart can, two rear tires? What the heck are you up to?

My guess is that it is a strobe light. Looks like some sort of emergency beacon or something to me...something like an EPRIB...at least that's what first came to mind when I looked at the pics.
I loved that car when it had the plastic bodywork. That was pretty freakin' hilarious. Is Kent still around here?
I'd love to see that car lined out. It looked like too much fun, despite it's issues, at the challenge. IIRC, one of the shifter cables melted on the exhaust manifold, so he had to choose the gear by hand, and use only that gear for the event. 2nd gear for the autocross and 3rd for the drag race.
I agree Corey, from what I remember you are right.... one gear. I know the car had som issues, but I cant imagine needing to spend 25,000 (or what ever is claimed) to sort it out... some people kids huh?? Wait, it was built by a kid, lets go with some peoples adults then.... LOL
Im sticking to my guns:
the angles on the top of the roll bar are different: more plumb vertically and then a more drastic angle in the bare chassis shot vs. sloped vertically and a shallower angle in the ebay shot. I know thats something that can be changed with a good oxy/acc torch and a mig, but i think its an awful lot of work to change out if the only addition is a pair of hoops for a helmet rule. Also, the ebay car has some added webbing in the tail that isnt in the bare shot - again, no smoking gun, but certainly questionable...
so I still say different...that is unless sanyarcosean = kent
I'm the current owner who has it listed on eBay, and THANK YOU to whomever sent me a message over ebay regarding this posting.
What is posted in eBay is exactly what I was told from the previous owner who resides in Miami.
The previous owner told me he had to disassemble the entire car and reweld pretty much the entire car because all the welds did not have the rigidity needed for serious autocross duty with the amount of aditional horsepower targetted. As you can see from the pictures and description, a lot has changed between the previous owner and myself, including frame modification and the engine was rebuilt, meth kit, etc.
Even at $4k, it's a very reasonable price considering all that has been added and redone post challenge.
Diamond plating can be removed by a series of screws.
I can testify that the redline is at 8,200rpms....and in the blog linked to from here, there is no mention of where he sourced the engine. I SPOKE to the engine builder down in Miami who rebuilt and tuned the engine and no expense was spared. Check the youtube videos posted in the auction page to hear the engine and redline limiter yourself.
I've run this at Whitehouse with Buccaneer Region SCCA in Jacksonville and South Georgia Motorsports Park with the Dixie Region SCCA in Valdosta, GA on several occasions and haven't had enough seat time to truely capitalize on everything this "beast" has to offer.
If anyone is seriously interested in this, please send me a message or email me at pmcmsc at yahoo. I've already acquired my next autocross car (92 325is for DSP, substantially slower for the girlfriend) and need to make room for it. There has been a lot of interest in the car and is being currently watched by almost 50 people.
Thanks again for whomever it was who sent me the message over eBay regarding this. -Philip
I've spoken to the previous owner and he confirmed he purchased this from Kent.
Since then, all the work I've mentioned has been done and then some. Car is reliable and much quicker than what you people may (or may not) have seen. Rebuilt motor alone with balanced and forged components, tuning and dyno was over $10,000 alone; nevermind the fact he added a Quafe LSD, stronger trasmission, upgraded axles, redesigned the rear suspension, etc etc etc etc etc etc.
I'm a very active autocrosser and some of you have seen me in my previous car. I will not lie, I do not scam, and I believe in full discloser which is why I'm following up with this post.
My asking price is MUCH lower than what I paid for the vehicle. I just want it gone to make room for the new project. For a price of only $5,000 this thing is a heck of a deal regardless of its past.
Some of you may know me by my previous autocross machine:
