m3h..

put that much work into a v8 and it would run 9's or so and not 12's..

A diesel that smokes is poorly tuned. bah.

don't care if it smokes or is slow, it's still pretty awesome. Top Gear's V8 blender didn't work very well either, but it's still pretty awesome.

Good use for a wrecked vette, but all that smoke isn't helping the clean diesel car image lol.

Love the engine note. I'm impressed with the work done to get it to work.

I love you, but you just dropped eleventy-zillion pegs in my book. Not really, but it was fun to say

A factory diesel that smokes may have a problem which requires tuning, but saying a diesel is "poorly tuned" just because it smokes is a bit naive.

This is a never-ending debate. The bottom line is that the diesel fuel itself contains more BTUs per gallon than gasoline. How it is used is no more debatable than gasoline in a car.... anyone who has smelled the sting of a pig-rich drag car in staging knows that its not about the idle tune, its about ETs.

Its the same with diesels. You tune it for its intended purpose. Black smoke during a tiny bit of its operating range is a trade-off for max performance, no different than a top-fuel dragster that dumps liquid fuel on the track because its best A/F ratio is about 3.45:1.

... but try running a 9 second gas car on the street. My fathers Duramax truck uses a Quadzilla tuner, a home-brew 5" exhaust, and a home-brew intake. It puts 950+ lb-ft to the ground, but because diesels are potentiated by fuel delivery, it is as docile on the street as a camry. The ironic thing is that the 600-hp truck will turn the same ETs as the 400-hp camaro that it tows... and get 16 mpg TOWING IT while the camaro gets about 9 mpg on the street.

Pretty much set on this being the engine of choice for my latest project :) This didnt help sway the decision at all.

Its so stupid its awesome.

There are a few neat diesel swaps out there I would love to drive/duplicate. There is a Duramax Grand National, a Duramax Mustang that turns mid 8s and gets 33 mpg.

I've been toying with the idea of a Powerstroke in my F150

Just burn biodiesel in it. Return the carbon to the atmosphere from whence it came instead of digging it up from miles below the surface.

205mph diesel? and 35mpg? Yes, please!

How heavy is the 'max? I know the 12V cummins is over 1,000 lbs. without FEAD stuff and manifolds.

The 6.7 Cummins is 1200 lbs as it sits in my Dodge, apparently. The same as one of my other cars...

I would love to have a Cummins in my Starsky & Hutch Gran Torino. With a curb weight of around 4000 lbs, it could use all the torque it could get.

So I guess I love the thought of a diesel in a big ill handling barge - not sure I'd put it in a Mustang, Corvette, or any other sub-two ton vehicle.
