I want to [closely] match the heads to the body on my wife’s project and this is all I could find short of $110 caliper paint.

I've seen regular paint work well in high temp settings before but this would be pretty hot.  And I don’t want to do it just to discover that I chose poorly.  WAaaay too much work to fix.

Do it or not??

At $17.00 for an 8 oz can I would be looking some place else. I would call them and see what temps it is rated to.

Can you test it on another motor in something?

I left wouldn't use duplicolor exterior touch up spray on heads or valve covers. Caliper paint or VHT engine enamel should be $8-13 per a can.

VHT engine paint is like 10$ at summit and I have painted heads with it and it holds up just fine.

The problem with engine paint and caliper paint is they aren't matching colors to the body, like he wants to do.

What engine are we talking about?  Some have known hot areas that will burn off any paint, others not so much.  On my old Pontiacs, I've had some limited success by first putting on a coat of high temp paint first (like 1200 degree header paint), then putting on a color coat on top of that.

Cromax and PPG have lines of high temp epoxy paints.

Maybe call the local store and see if they can mix a custom color? Generally they can stuff it into an aerosol can on site as well.

Or you could shoot it on if you have a paint gun setup.

I've done one set of heads with regular paint. Unfortunately it didn't live long enough for long term results but it held up for the couple months the car lived after that.

Sorry, it's all I could think of when you said you didn't want to choose poorly.

Memes aside, I knew a guy who used standard spray paint as a base and covered with high temp clear  on some brake calipers to get a colour he could otherwise have, it held up well.
