Thats right. The Ranger's clutch. Now, you know I can't take the easy route, so I'm replacing all the equipment I can while I'm down there. No help needed there, it's already a big list.
I want a stage 2 clutch, but can only find stage 1 and 3 on ebay. Wut up with that? What should I do? Keep in mind, it's an unmodified 2.3L. I'll be making minor power adding modifications, so a heavy clutch isn't necessary, but I think I'd enjoy driving it more.
I believe the transmission in 91 was the Mazda M5OD, but if it is the Mitsubishi, please let me know.
Enablers, go!
step one: find SVO mustang or thunderbird turbo driveline in junkyard.
step two, instal stg 3 clutch.
step 3 YEEEEEEEEEHAAAAAWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!

Well, it looks like you've got your answer. Shall I lock this thread so you're forced to take that course of action?
Whole new transmission vote marked. I know the splines don't match, so the parts aren't cross compatible, but swapping shouldn't be a problem.
Keep the ideas rolling.
This truck is not used to haul big loads. I've got an F150 for that.

LOL NO!
Maybe someone has a better idea.

I have to agree with this guy Nick.
buy a V8 Explorer with a blown trans, pull the driveline, scrap the body and use the money to buy a Mustang 5speed from the junkyard. Assemble.
If you care, you could put high gears in the rear end - that and a light truck should net good mileage and have a the top speed of a commercial airliner.
Will these options accept the same drive shaft? Either Cobra or SVO.
In reply to N Sperlo:
well, yeah, I meant scrap the Explorer body and put the V8, 5spd driveline in your Ranger.

Is this the $650 Ranger? Pics? I second getting a T5 behind it, hell you should just go ahead and swap in a 2.3T while you're in there and turn up the boost to 18psi...
OK, Clyde. Obviously misunderstood. I'm not planning on swapping the engine at the moment. Not enough cash.
Now putting a Skyline turbo on it LATER, thats a possibility.
My thoughts are get the cheapest stock clutch you can and get it running. I like exedys. Anyway. once that is done. Save your pennies for any number of awesome engines to swap in. The 2.3T and 5.0L have been done tons of times. There seems to be lots of love around here for the Duratec 4 cyl out of the newer ranger.
do something that will be useful later. namely, get a T5 and associated clutch etc from a Turbocoupe. even a stock setup will hold all a N/A lima can ever make.
and when you invariably add forced induction, everything will still be up to the task below 300whp.
What about the output splines? Guess it depends on what the T5 is out of.
Here's my thought process. I doubt I'll do a huge swap. I still plan on doing a 5.0 Volvo, so this is my DD truck. I don't expect to find a good T5 fast enough, so this is what it comes down to. Is a stage 3 going to be a PITA or just give my left leg a little workout? I'll need to order soon, but I'm getting started on the F150 brake lines, so i have something up and running. I just don't need to have the Ranger down for an extended period.
You know what? This truck will decimate all, after, you put about one hundred dollars in it or more. If we have to, overnight parts from... the Auto Zone hub...
Ah... The mad scientist is in.
The spec 3 isnt so bad its a little on the heavy side but not too far out there. My
Turbocoupe had one, the shop Turbocoupe had one, the shop 2.3t Mustang has the same one its been abused and is just fine.

Thanks. Truthfully, thats the real info I'm after. I like the ideas, though. Unfortunately, the cash flow just isn't good enough. I'm lucky enough to have what I have and do what I do. The Nissan is starving for attention.
