That picture of Axl is scary...
HOLY E36 M3! That is Axl Rose? I thought it was some third tier Zydeco singer.
The caption makes more sense now, eh?
I've only seen one bad auto-x wreck when a STI lost it and jumped a parking lot island. The depressing part it was an instructor run who normally drives a STU prepped STI. He was really pissed at himself. The car had to be flat-bedded home.
The worst incident I've seen was back around 1990 when I saw a guy with an Isuzu i-Mark RS (Handling by Lotus!) roll over. He had R-comp tires on an otherwise stock suspension and the passenger's side front wheel just tucked under and sent him over.
I also remember being at a GRM (or maybe CMC?) sponsored event on Cape Cod where someone smacked a granite curb with brand new Corrado that VW brought out for demo rides. The guy from VW wasn't real happy that day. As I recall, one of the other Corrados (they brought three) had some kind of mechanical failure. He was complaining that no cars could hold up to the kind of abuse that they being subjected to. In reality, we were only allowed to make one shift from first to second or we would be DQ'd.

Are Vettes the most common car to crash at an auto-x event or what?!?
maybe most common for non-professionals to break in any form of competition. last time I was at the drag strip, during the driver's meeting, the worker said "are there any vettes here? ok good. they like to leave parts behind on our track"
