for starters, I am so far behind on my Challenge car, I might not have it ready for Oct.
I thought I was getting the month of August off (no scheduled races) to attack it head on. Got back this week and found out they decided to do Monterey.
Sounds great ,right, complete all expenses paid, deluxe 5 star resort, all meals (and no MickeyD's junk) and drinks, transportation and full access admission. What could be better?
I tell my wife, she says great, she'll see if she can get off from work and come with me. She says when is it, I tell her the dates and she says " oh..too bad..We can't go, We have Melissa's wedding then."
WTF...she's getting married then?
So, my dilemma, miss my niece's wedding, bring on the wrath of a mad women and go...
or skip the chance trip of a lifetime and attend the wedding?

You have to weigh the statistics on this one...
There is a 50% chance your niece will get married again..
What's the chance you'll be able to go to Monterey again? From the sounds of things ~10-20%..
You know what you must do.
Who's "they" and what kind of racing at Monterey?
'Cmon... you know the answer. Apologize later.
Ouch, you're right, don't want to be in your shoes.
Sometimes a hang-dog expression, a little time and some gentle pressure can cause a wife to yield. Then you'd be free to go to Monterey alone.
Is it for business? I'm getting a free pass to go to Woodward Dream Cruise pretty much right after our son is born cause it's for my job.
the "Warden" would have me by the scrotem pack if i went to the track, so i would go to the track...
I can be of assistance.
1) I can work on the Challenge car for you. I am pretty good with a wrench or a welder, I can at least get some of the grunt work done.
2) I can go to Monterey for you. I am not sure what you do for a living, but I am pretty versatile and I am sure that I can figure it out.
3) I can go to the wedding for you. I will sit through the wedding, enjoy the all-you-can-eat buffet, free booze and drunk bridesmaids.
I'm here for you man!

What's that old saying? "It's better to beg forgiveness than ask permission”
tape a video response and get her a real nice gift

You are a true humanitarian.
It's your niece. You have to go to the wedding. At least it'll give you more time to work on the Challenge car. Monterey will be there next year.

Okay...you drive out and get there what..Wednesday/Thursday?
Fly back or to wherever for the Wedding (odds are it's on a Saturday). Catch the red-eye back to Cali.
How does that old country song go when she gives him the choice of going fishing or her? "I'm gonna miss her , hey I've got a bite!"

Isn't this why they invented caffeine and airplanes?

Well, with my return to school, one of my Miatae has to go. Likely the car that I had hoped to bring to the challenge. Thankfully, no nieces getting married yet, of course the oldest is only five.
Good lick in your decision.
Ok...some background, I drive the truck and provide trackside support for a race prep shop, and "they" are the customers. Originally they weren't running in any events in August. Now, the big client gets an invite to participate, so off we go.
I guess I could always live in the truck......

ok.. is it your niece or your wife's niece... IMO, that makes a bit of a difference...
Dude, go to the track. Will your niece even notice that you're not there? I can safely say that if someone I invited skipped my wedding I didn't notice, or care. I skipped my cousins wedding since it was going to be all Jesus-ey and I was pretty hung over and I only got flack from a few of my keen-on-jesus relatives that I don't like anyway. Just have your wife pick out a really nice gift and all will be forgiven.
an adopted niece so no real blood connection until I get my nuts cut off while sleeping...
I skipped my cousins second wedding last month, I had to work. It seams like "work needs me to go" and "My job could be in danger if I don't" could help you out. I'm just not sure if you can get away with those.
Good luck
The "I wanted to go to the wedding but I have to work" line isn't getting you anywhere??

isn't this your job? if you don't go, couldn't it possibly limit your opportunities to continue to make money doing this in the future? i'd probably go, but i don't have any nieces.
This is/was a part time discretionary income job, I retired in the beginning of last year.
As far as she cares, I could get a different job.
I, however, like this one. Where else can you play with F1 cars, old Atlantic cars, world class Porsches and get to drive a Tesla and most recently a GT40, which by the way has the worst designed rear view mirror setup I have ever seen. Plus banging my head numerous times on that big dam door overhange...
