The day I get outta prison, my own brother picks me up in a police car!

Sure, if all you think is Ford. (Not necessarily a bad outlook on life)
A few of those Chargers out there are V8. Not all of them, but a few. And boy do they look MENACING.
Is Chevy still selling the police Tahoe?
"Fix the cigarette lighter."
Seriously, tho..will any PD choose the turbo or AWD version (especially when the non-turbo still has more HP than the old Crown Vic V8)? Sounds like a good way to seriously increase the maintenence budget. And what about getting that much power to the ground in an FWD (yeah, I have em, I love em, but I know em..)?
OTOH, they might have a chance. I've talked to a few officers that have the Chargers/Challengers, and they've all talked about the lack of interior space. Cherokee Co. (Georgia) officer told me they've actually ordered a few the wagon versions to see if they work better.

Does Dodge and Chevy call their cop packages "Interceptor", though, like Ford does?
The Turbo Interceptor is a stripped down SHO, and thus it shares AWD. ;)
The P71 will not be the last of the V8 Interceptors though, as the as-mentioned Chargers are still in production and the Chevy Caprice (a Holden Commodore, ie - long wheelbase G8) is coming. The Caprice is the one I want! 2012 Impala SS with LS3? Yes, please!
Well, if thats the criteria than i think thats like saying last of the 4 cylinder pintos.. did anyone else make pintos?

If the new Taurus has more interior room than the Charger, i wouldnt be surprised if all of it is taken up by the ginormous center console.
Interceptor Taurus has no console. Don't you read Autoblog/Jalopnik/Inside Line? This info is like 4 months old now...

And I was afraid the badge engineered caprice would be ugly...now Im all hot and bothered again!
And you werent kidding about the Impala either
But what ever happened with that new Police only car that would never be available to the public? The carbon or whatever it was? Supposedly was gonna have X years service life, then be returned to the MFR to be refreshed and sent back out to the force.
No force will ever blow money on that thing, especially when the new crop of factory Interceptors are going to be so great. I can't wait to get a Caprice at under $3K!

yes they are and chicago is slowly converting its fleet over to them.
it does make it easier to see them now that they are the same height as most other vehicles on the road.
So they are taking the G8 and resureccting it? Excellent. It's one of the FEW four door cars that gets me hot and bothered.

Agreed. I was worried by a few artists renderings I saw when the whole carpocalypse happened and GM decided to shoot themselves in the foot...err...I mean retire Pontiact/Saturn etc. The Caprice looked turdtastic in those sketches, but that Caprice looks Dead sexy.
Impala SS would make the best looking cop car in some time (at least here in the US)
Not exactly the G8. It's a longer wheelbase version and will actually feature quite a few differences, especially in the tail. At least the Interceptor version will. GM hasn't decided whether or not to release a civilian Impala SS version yet.
You wouldn't need all that V8 power if the cops were allowed to shoot people more often. How much is a 50-cal Barrett anyway? Hard to outrun one of THOSE rounds!
What's the name of the Commodore's big brother again? Ah, the Statesman. Maybe it'll be one of those.
I saw a G8 pull up to a cross street the other day as I was heading towards it. My first reaction was "holy crap, a Commodore! No, wait, it's a G8..." I am working hard to convince my wife of the goodness of the G8 GT but it's not working.
racerfink,
They are. It's called the Buick Regal GS. It's getting the Turbo-4, AWD, and a 6-speed manual.
I was just talking to an officer who was driving her newly assigned challenger (picked up that morning.) Her biggest complaint was "not enough room for all my stuff, big on the outside, small inside...."
She did like the bad ass look of them though.

Yup...even sports the same wheels in the press releases
They better change the taillights if they expect to be used in Maryland
http://jalopnik.com/5589270/maryland-judge-decrees-pontiac-g8-gt-tail-lights-illegal
Maryland Judge Decrees Pontiac G8 GT Tail Lights Illegal A Maryland judge issued an $85 fine to the owner of a Pontiac G8 GT for illegal tail lights, despite being factory-installed and approved by the US Department of Transportation. She's promised to keep fining him. Judicial activism, FTL!
G8 owner said: "Went to court for my clear tail lights on my car and was found guilty!
The judge actualy told me she didn't care what the manufacturer said, what the federal govt said, what the DOT # stamped onto my taillights said if the officer says my lights aren't legal then they're not legal. I took the G8 sales brochure in along with pics of my car and other G8 GT's and the VIN trace by 3 different dealers saying my lights were factory none of it mattered she found me guilty of failing to display or reflect red light on the rear of the car. Didn't matter the reflecters were in the bumper, didn't matter where the light is has that little red circle, the whole lens isn't red so they're not legal. Also where the back-up and turn signals are should be the reflectors according to the cop so the V6 cars lights aren't legal either.
Judge stupid went on to tell me that maybe I should consider trading in or selling the car since its not legal in MD and that I'm going to continue to get the $60 tickets till I get rid of the car.
So I contacted Pontiac's 1-800 # and I have an apt next friday to have my car looked at by them and see if they can help or at least repay me the $85.50 fine and court costs.
I honestly don't know what else I can do. The cop was ALL smiles afterwards and winked at me! WTF! Now I'm screwed! How do I go to work now? I drive right thru where he works!! So this ass nuget can make up **** randomly for any car he gets a hard on for and nothing can be done to fight it!
This is BS."
