Was watching some touge battles on the ole' youtube and came across this. There narration is similar to Top Gear. I don't know if they have any type of Auto Show where all 3 are together, but someone in Japan should get on that. (I'll take some executive producer credits as well Japan for the idea!)
That's Hot Version. Been around a long time now.
I used to watch Best Motoring all the time in high school, which is also very similar.
I love that show, I especially like the classed tuning challenges, when they do a RWD or FWD 200 hp shootout for instance. I think its awesome that a garage will pick a Honda Fit or Toyota Yaris for instance, and be "all in" tuning this tiny econobox for track or Touge battle.
Man I miss those shows. They had the best of the best. Cars and Drivers.
Best Motoring was the name of the DVD series. Hot Version is a segment within that DVD. I love that show, its what started me into performance driving when I saw those dudes ripping around the track and heel toe-ing. I'd never seen anything like it before.
Usually they will focus on a new car, go through its specs and take it for a rundown on the track. Then they do a 5 or so lap race against other drivers in similar stock cars. But always at the end they do those Touge battles (aka "Hot Version segment"), and different tuning companies bring their best and have the pros blast 'em down the mountain.
There is a guy on Youtube named Jjunfer who has most of the full length episodes uploaded to his channel.

The last time I watched a video from that track, there were full sized Dodge vans racing around it.
