When considering secondary cars, I'm looking for automatics that can be fun because it would be an easier than trying to teach her manual again.

In reply to The_Jed: Needs a repaint, a/c has a leak, dash is cracked, cruise module is dead and is due for a timing belt. But when you're in the mood it's pretty fun and looks like a space ship compared to most everything else on the road.

My confession this week is an epitome I've had. Daily Driving a cheap econobox is freeing... I daily drove my sweetheart which I coveted the condition it was in for three years; never wanted to park it in tight spots, didn't want to drive it during heavy traffic, and didn't want to take it to sketchy areas. I recently paid cash for a 2013 Fiat 500Tubro for around town and have become pretty smitten with it. I park it anywhere, I clean it often but don't care if it gets dented or a bird unloads a lb of E36 M3 on it because I'm not going to own it forever and I'm also not trying to fight the depreciation. It also was extremely cheap (hopefully that wont bite me in the ass with repairs, but its low mileage). I look at more expensive cars, was checking out the Q60 this morning. But it's like yes I can afford this ,but there's something freeing about driving a cheap car because you can buy 3 more if it breaks.

Some of my beaters are too nice to be beaters, so I buy more beaters to 'protect' the first beaters from damage.

Also I am really upset at how hard it is to find a Cherokee locally. It's almost like people drive them in the winter or something.

Sometimes I want a rotary.

For the last seven years, my duster has spent more time broken than on the road. It's currently really broken. I have finally found the motivation to fix it properly, but have three other major projects ahead of it, and no money to dedicate to it.

This. My DD has been an increasingly old Chevy Prizm. I never wash it, only do the bare minimum of maintenance. It frees up my time to wrench on the cars I actually love. I also get particular satisfaction from jamming it into tiny spaces downtown. The car too.

You guys are all a bunch of limp wristed girly girls

I've never had as much fun daily driving a fun car as the Corolla. Every day, that thing is awesome. It did break on the final day, but thats what I have a reliable DD for.

If my commute was bumper to bumper traffic, I'd be in an auto car too... something like a C63 amg merc

In reply to Coldsnap:

Nope. Picking up a 2011 for $8k. I think with a few bolt-ons (RSB, exhaust, Fit intake manifold) and a Hondata tune it would be a splendid sporty daily driver. I love the styling and the crazy cyberpunk interior, and the damn things are dirt cheap. Plus, it's a Honda, what could go wrong?

I just spent $3000 to purchase and retrieve a cherry 1990 Acura Integra. I have been unable to develop any emotion over this car. I don't love it, I don't hate it. It evokes no emotion whatsoever in me. It's just a car.

I bought it to save the car and its PO the indignity of trying to be traded in at a dealer. I feel like I did a good deed. And that's ALL I feel.

I'm 20 and have 2 cars, one of which works. I also have a milling machine project. I search CL daily for new projects. I don't even have a garage, carport, or driveway of my own for any of the projects I've started. I've got a problem, and unfortunately I have another ~2.5 years before I graduate and can do anything about it..

But damn it's making my life difficult, the stupid thing is just sapping my automotive enthusiasm. It may get parked for a while and I'll finish up the season dailying the Miata. The beat on 18 year old race prep miata is the most reliable and least problematic car in my fleet.
