I've become one of "those people"

You know, the ones who own 6000+ lb trucks and commute with them?

I bought a Chevy 2500 6.0, and commute with it, at least for the time being. When (if?) I get my Jetta back together that will be my commuting car, at least in the summer, but for now, we needed something to pull our 24' camper trailer and haul the quad I got a good deal on this. I feel a bit hypocritical, but I don't see any other choice for now. My wife needs the GTP most days, so I drive the truck to work, which is about 35 km round trip, not a big deal, but I'm one of "those people" and it bugs me...

On a side note, the 6.0 pulls the 6000lb loaded trailer very easily, and when unloaded it pulls down better MPG than anybody told me to expect from it. It's also very comfy, actually.

So long as you actually use the truck as a truck occasionally you aren't really one of "those people".

"Those people" have a 1/2 ton truck with no tow package and a spotless bed.

Everybody I know with a pickup truck uses theirs, now "those people" with 4wd SUVs with passenger tires on them...

I don't have a sporless bed. Butthen again we're getting better mileage out of our full size truck than most minivans.

watch out for miatas and other low sports cars. I don't know how tall your truck is, but you may want to invest in those stick on spherical mirrors to see the ground beside you better.

Haha, yeah. Well it's just a regular stock height '00 2500. It's no monster truck. It does have a convex mirror on the driver's side though.

I daily drive my 96 Dodge Ram Cummins X cab, long box 4x4 through city traffic,shopping malls, etc. I love every second of it, and it gets comparable mileage to my DSM, being a diesel and whatnot.

My '86 Suburban is the St. Bernard of the fleet. ( 2WD, 350 4-barrel, automatic.) It's big, friendly, and more than a little sloppy.

It's also reliable and useful. Normally it sits and waits for a rescue or hauling job. It's also the designated backup backup vehicle.

We can argue the economics of keeping it registered and insured, but I like having seats for eight or the ability to haul a bunch of stuff on demand, even if I seldom use it.

Still, my son wants to turn it in to CFC and buy a Kia ...

I DD both my Mkii MR2 and a Grand Cherokee. The Cherokee has the 4.0 six in it instead of the V8, and because I only do the occasional dirt road and light hauling I went w/ 2wd.

The way I drive the MR2 they both get similar milage.

My brother in laws dodge cummins gets better mileage then my Miata did in town.

My E150 gets reasonable mileage, wife loves it as her run about, it is the school bus, tows all over the country, hauls parts including engines, transmissions and complete third members, fits 12' 2 x 12s down the center, and has even been put to work in my transport business, it is the most versatile vehicle I have ever bought.

6000lbs...that's just a baby...my F350 crew cab 8 foot bed dually diesel weighs in at 7500lbs and gets 14mpg around town....but I love it.
