And it's wagon too.
Why would I not buy this for my 21-year-old daughter? It's cheaper than a 2006 mid-level Sonata with a few more miles on it. And it's way cheaper than any Accord of similar age and condition.

Plus it's a great way to start a conversation with the kind of older gentleman that also drive an x-type and that might make a good sugar daddy...
Sorry about that.
But seriously, I see no reason why this would be a bad idea if she can accept the image thing.
I don't have much to add other than doing spark plugs on the rear head facing the firewall is a pain because the Intake Manifold sits on top of it

That is a great deal!
I had a 2003 2.5 X type. Had it from 40K to around 110K. Never had any real issues with the car. It wasn't the most exciting car to drive, but it was very comfortable and reliable.

Most people think it is a Ford. . .. And well it is a Ford.
Don't think of it as a Jag as it is probably the worst "Jag" ever made. I instead think of it as one of the nicest Fords ever made. Do this and you will be very pleased with them.
Didn't Clarkson love the 3.0 manual? He said something to the effect that though it's basically a Mondeo, it's the most refined Mondeo you'll ever drive.I think it goes like this: "genetically, you are 98% identical to a halibut, but it's the 2% that makes the difference"

OK, you guys helped me out a lot with the X-type (and the car ended up having most of the flaws Dean pointed out). Now here's this:
So, what catastrophe is lurking that this guy is trying to get out from under?

Some of them leak slow for quite some time before finally going. Labor time to replace is probably more than the car. You can DIY. It took me a damn long time, and required a lot of patience, but I got it done.

Just like 2 of the toyotas I own.
I am in the middle of negotiations with a dealer on one. Same as the one noted above but with the darker silver exterior and it is a STR so 400+/- hp and torque. We are about $500 apart at the moment. I will probably get it but hay. 500 is what it is going to cost me to get it home.

Are you in this ballpark (allowing for the difference in packages), or is this a "get it off my property before it explodes" price point?
My low offer was to low. The $$$$ we are talking now that s appropriate for the car. What they are asking is fair and I spoke with them today and they keep insisting on adding the dealer service fee to the price so technically we are 1k apart. I want another 500 off or they wave the dealer fee. But they seem to be warming to my offer as they have been sitting on the car now for three months. It is a bit of a unicorn and I think they are learning that. I have seen comparable cars for 1k less that are currently on the market but they are much farther away. So it is a game of compromise.
I have had several Taurus and it drives completely different. However because it kind of looks like a ford many people do not know what it is. Hell the day it came in to the junkyard where I got it I saw it from a bit of a distance from the rear 3/4 view and I thaught it was a ford at first. Because of my buisness I really can not have a Merc or a BMW. People will think I am making to much money. Jags on the other hand those that know what they are generally appreciate them. Those that think they are fords (but think they know what and who drive Mercs) are the ones I want to keep thinking I am driving a ford.
