The Jaguar XF; a quasi-british car assembled in India on the old Lincoln LS platform. This sounds like the trifecta of automotive doom. However my girlfriend however has fallen in love and says that I am an ass for telling her "It isn't crap, but give it time and it will be." I see all these neat gizmos in the interior and all I can think is "Aston Martin Lagonda, this is a lot of E36M3 to eventually fail."
I would like to give helpful input into her next purchase, but my default answers of Miata or Jeep Cherokee are no good, since she would never buy a car that I have ever owned. Does anyone else have any suggestions? (2-3 years old and under $45,000) Must have 4 doors, be stupid fast, and look extremely out of place parked in my driveway. The AMG C63 has been mentioned, but I have limited knowledge regarding automobiles that cost more than a typical fridge. What would you buy/build or am I overreacting to my natural fear of any Jag that doesn't have a small-block Chevy under the hood???

Well if she is paying $45K for a car then she can most likely pay to have it fixed. Now if you are paying for it then that is different.

I'm pretty sure they're built in(Edit) Castle Bromwich and it's not the the old S-type chassis either.

You're overreacting.

Everything I've read says it's a brilliant car overall, and I fully intend to purchase one some day in the unlikely event I fall into a pile of money.

Encourage her to buy it if she'll let you drive it.

I love the XF and I would own one in a heart beat. It will be more reliable then the Mercedes.

Girlfriend's British Lincoln? What could go wrong?

It has absolutely, positively, zilch to do with the Lincoln LS, so get that out of your head. Secondly, it's waaaaayyyy more reliable and higher quality than the all-Brit Jags have been for the last 30 years (former XJ-S owner here). Stop living in 1973 and come to the real world. It's a damn good car.

Not in the price range unless you go slightly older. I want one badly.

I really doubt, if you want an XF, a Pontiac G8 is going to do it for you.

I really think the XF is the best luxury car of that size for sell right now.

CPO 2008 M5s can just squeak under the price cap.

Only 15k miles!

Every time I have seen one I make one sound: Ewwww. And I LOVE Britmobiles.

IMHO: Let her buy what she wants with her own money. But let her take care of it too. Life is WAY too short to take on other people's problems, particularly self inflicted ones.

Parked next to the latest XJ, it looks great.

I think the XF looks great period. Although it looks even better when parked next to that horrible "Porsche" 4 door thingy.

I don't care for the XJ either. These cars do not look like Jaguars. To me they do not follow the progression that Jag had followed (to a point at least, the last XK looked a LOT like a Trans Am).

I think if Sir William were to rise from the grave he would first set fire to the design studio and then decapitate the entire board of directors.

He would have sacked the engineering team when they started using V8s. He loathed them.

I was excited when it was said they were going to move away from the retro designs. Jaguar was about forward thinking in it's prime. The current execution leaves a lot to be desired, but I still prefer a 3 box sedan to the "4 door coupe" crap that's being put out these days.

She wont buy a car you have owned? That very car, or the same model? She seems high maintenance. Time for a new girlfriend.

Trying to care... ISN'T WORKING.

We don't even know what she wants, and I doubt she does either, so why not get the nicely styled V8 powered Ozzie/American bruiser?

+1 The old S-type sucked bad and the XF is a great leap forward.
