Former "Tonight Show" host Jay Leno will star in a new television show on CNBC tentatively titled "Jay Leno's Garage" that will focus on the car collector's market, including best investments and valuations in the space.
The primetime series will debut in 2015 and feature everything from classics to supercars, and restoration projects to road tests.
"This show will be about anything that rolls, explodes, and makes noise," Leno said in a statement. "We hope to highlight the passion and the stories behind the men and women who made the automobile the greatest invention of the 20th century."
The show is based on his Emmy Award-winning Web series, which has more than 1 million subscribers on Google's YouTube and more than 105 million lifetime views.
This must be why the web version of the show has been in steady decline.
He's a lousy comedian, but a good car guy. I'll give it a shot.
He's actually a fantastic comedian live---- but the Tonight Show IMHO neutered his comedy for the masses.
He's one of the most knowledgeable car guys I've ever met---- I'm totally looking forward to this! Hopefully he'll have total control, and it won't include any of the false drama that ruins most other car shows. He's a real history buff, and learns the story behind all of the machines he buys.
Jay is the real deal when it comes to machinery----cars, motorcycles, steam engines, etc. He'll blow most of the "car experts" we see on T.V. totally out of the water. Of course I'm also hoping a car show doesn't need invented drama to succeed with the masses. Go Jay Go!
This is a car show I can get behind, not likely to be fueled by shameless product placement/ endorsement like so many others. I know I know the bills have to be paid but it gets old really quickly.

This is what I'm looking forward to - the thing about Jay is he's interested in all kinds of cars (and other kinds of machinery). Most of the car shows on TV now have a pretty narrow focus, whether it's hot rods or trucks or whatever.

Geez, I don't see much of it here on these responses but a lot of Jay bashing going on out there if you follow some of the links about this announcement and the others. I see some guy for example got his panties in a bunch because Jay apparently made a joke about the Delorean. Seriously dude? I think a lot of it is from people who are jealous. His videos are great, part of the reason is there are no product placements and more importantly, no commercials. So I wonder if his TV show will be as enjoyable.
One of his best is the blue Datsun 510. He sums up the car very well.

Then again the Corvair, Abarth, Tim Allen's Camaro, his Toronado and many more are enjoyable.
I like his show. I think that they want to get some of the old people that don't want to watch his show on Youtube.
In reply to Woody:
I hope it is more of this:
"This show will be about anything that rolls, explodes, and makes noise," Leno said in a statement.
rather than this:
will focus on the car collector's market, including best investments and valuations in the space.

I hope that it isn't too dry and collector oriented. IMO most "car dude" shows in America fail because they try too hard to aim at an imaginary group of stereotypical gearheads. Thus they get all tied up in knots trying to pander to the drifter/rat rodder/drag/Nascar/rich collector/adolescent/et cetera/ et cetera. IMO what's important for a show to have widespread success is for it to first and foremost be good television. Have a magnetic host(s) with a good sense of humor, who also has some modicum of respect for his viewers, and alternate between tech, humor, general interest and such. I may have little interest in NASCAR, but a good host will make it interesting. We watch Top Gear despite the fact that it's fairly tech deficient because we like the guys and could see ourselves in their shoes.
Leno could pull off a general interest show like I describe because he has the chops, the smarts, the humor and the requisite car-guy knowledge. He's also got the clout to tell the producers to get stuffed if they push him to dumb it down. That said, he might not be interested in a show like that. At this point in his career, doing the genteel thing may be more his bag. We'll have to see.
I think a lot of the Leno bashing is because he is one rich SOB and they are not. I love his love of all things mechanical. His steam engines and steam car are to die for. I missed the show, hope to catch later. One thing I have noticed on some shows he is on (like Overhauling), is he is constantly trying to get zingers in there. You can't take the comedy out of the comedian.
