I know some of you want one. Prototype article
I sent SWMBO a link to that yesterday. I'm hoping for diesel, all the auto rags that have had anything to say about it so far still seem to be expecting an oil burner option for the SUV and truck version by the second of third model year.
The specs on the turbo 4 banger aren't too shabby either though. I assume the Pentastar will be an option too.

A couple articles I've read, believe that the soft top as we know it will be gone, and in its place will be removable panels. Speculation was based on interviews, and "leaked" info, not an absolute fact at the moment.
That was pertaining to the SUV, but if the SUV doesn't get an actual soft top, it would reason the truck wouldn't either.
Having owned a soft top TJ for almost 17 years, I won't miss it.
Well, it doesn't have to be 'soft'...But being able to go open-air in the same manner as the SUV could be fun.
I had lunch with our local FCA PR rep today. They just said there is no official comment about the photos, but some people are not happy.
Needs a single cab option or it will just be the next Subaru Baja or that weird Ford Explorer "pickup" thing.

A drone and sit out on one of the public roads along the Chelsea Proving Ground fence and you get the latest stuff. It's a kinda large area to cover with camouflage netting.

Yup, I pointed that out to them as well. I can see Brenda Priddy now, sitting in the back of an unmarked van, VR headset strapped on, sitting in front of a custom suitcase fitted with dual joysticks. Yup, the game has changed. Now for the OEMs to start deploying IR blasting counter-drones to blind the cameras.

I am a defender of both the Baja and the Explorer SportTrac. I hated the SportTrac when it debuted and thought it was stupid. Now I get it. I'd love one right now. Resale on these is stupid high, too. The Baja is a little harder to defend but doesn't really need a defense because Subaru. And yes, I am eagerly awaiting the Jeep truck and fully expect to be in line for one.
skinny bed looks kind of strange, IMO. Is it gonna have flares on it, I guess? IDK, if I'm getting a pickup I want a bed that can fit some drywall lol.
Also, what are the chances it has any real towing capacity? That would be more interesting.
I personally think the AEV conversion looks a lot better. The bed "goes with" the cab better IMO.
Two doors too many for me to be any type of excited about that. I don't like Wranglers with four doors, why would I want a Wrangleresque truck with four doors? I'd go buy an F-150 if I wanted a large four door truck. If I wanted a modern day Scrambler I would just bitch and moan about this new Jeep because I don't think I can buy one.
God, look at how long that thing is. At this point it's just too far outside what I'd want in a Wrangler, they're saying overall length is about the same as a Suburban.
Even my JKU was bordering on too big for what it was. Strange to think that a Wrangler was longer, taller, wider, and heavier than my '78 K5 Blazer .... and with over 100hp more too.
If they came out with something in the same chassis size as the CJ-7/YJ/TJ, I may be interested again. But at this point no thanks.
I got a wild hair last fall to look for a Scrambler as a fun/different shop beat-around pickup. I was surprised at the rabid following and the prices for good-not-great ones at auctions.

Earlier concept looks like an extra-cab.

Yeah, those are what sells. The two you mentioned were in the first wave of what's now bog standard. Who has even seen a 2-dr colorado or canyon on the road yet? I haven't.
In reply to Vigo:
4 door pickups with NVH specs that are more in line with a Buick than a truck built before large luxury cars got legislated out of existence sell. I'm just not seeing the same happening with a Wrangler pickup that also sucks at Wrangler things because they stretched the wheelbase and body about 3 feet to give it a backseat.
Looks to me like the bed is a narrowed RAM bed - which would make sense for an early prototype. I'd expect it to have matching flares on the box sides and the front fenders.
I certainly hope they fix the rear axle placement on the final model.
I'm not a fan of these. I've never thought that the 4dr pickup made sense for Jeep from a car-guy perspective, but from an urban-assault Mom point of view it will sell like crazy. For me, a 2 dr Scrambler-esque design makes more sense but as mentioned, it wouldn't sell enough to justify itself.
That concept reminds me of the MINI Countryman and the Fiat 500XL. They threw trademark, popular, good styling at a vehicle whose proportions will never really work with said styling. I almost feel like I'm looking an Asian knock-off or something.
But I'm sure it will sell.
